Ugh. Fired up my older garage/hptuners laptop (win7) and it is running slowwwww. Main reason for firing it up was to change automatic updates and check for the dreaded win10 update. CPU usage is maxed out and memory usage high as well.

Pulled up the task manager and svchost is extremely active. Downloaded and ran rkill and tdsskiller. Neither found anything. I havent tried any malware software yet. Help

Svhost is a system service, probably a third party one you've added or installed.

I'd go into system services, but I know what most of them do and which I can turn off. Stuff like antivirus, itunes fuckery, adobe updates, lots of it will run as services. You can google them one by one and disable things you don't need.

Run > type MSCONFIG > Startup > disable things you don't need on startup.

That may help your usage directly after starting the PC.

Fk it. Did this. Of course, hptuners released ver. 3 and my config files only work on 2.24 and older. I couldnt figure out how to move ver. 2.24 to the newer laptop, so just downloaded v 3.

A fresh install of an OS on a computer is one of the many joys of this world that are far too short lived.

No kidding. Just pulled the trigger on a refurb HP 8000 SFF desktop. It'll become the new HTPC, and the current HTPC will become the file server.

All this talk of upgrading computers has finally driven me to purchase some new RAM for the home PC. It's starting to max out when I have 50+ tabs open across three browsers, plus VMware running in the background.

Sadly, the motherboard I have at the moment (Intel DP55WB, purchased in 2010) maxes out at 16 GB. Still, that ought to suffice for now.

only 50+ pages of pr0n at a time? what is this, 1998?
you need to RAM harder

32GB would be nice...

But I think just bumping this machine up to 16 should reduce or eliminate the paging, and speed things up again.

I'm reminded of a time when I had so much RAM that I was able to shut off paging entirely... Gone are those days.

aidandj 03-21-2016 01:00 AM

The 12 cores also help keep other things going when compiling.

Yeah, my work PC is a 12 core Xeon E7 with 16 GB. That machine never stumbles no matter what I throw at it. I almost always have WireCAD and AutoCAD running, plus a VM or two, plus Outlook plus Chrome with 20+ tabs, plus a couple instances of Excel, and a Visio drawing or two... That machine just doesn't care.

Rant

My brother passed a few years ago. He and his wife were separated at the time. She went outside the marriage. He tried to make things work. Went to therapy etc. She put little effort in the process.

I am the only one on my side of the family that she will speak with. I would have told her to go fk herself a while back but we promised my brother (obviously before he passed) we wouldnt treat her bad. So i am the middle man for both sides. Fk'n great, right?

My parents had no rights as far as the funeral and cremation. She did as he wished and had him cremated. She kept his urn with her leaving my side of the family no where to honor/remember him. Finally she gets a vault and my parents are happy they have a place to go.

Fast forward to now. My parents put some stick on easter decorations on his vault. I guess my SIL didnt like them because her comment to me was "he isnt two." She gave me the mausoleum policy page that states you can only put things in the paid for (read stupid fkn expensive) holders. We were aware of the rules but no one follows them.

SIL took the easter items down. I reminded my parents about the rules etc. My parents drive to mausoleum and find other vaults with stuff all over them and call me asking what is going on.

So maybe the whore (parents nickname for her) didnt like what my parents did and came up with a plan to blame it on the mausoleum mgmt? The whole fkn situation sucks.

/ fkn rant
