Figured you'd know more about them than i do but anyways. Having that buffer is nice since the gas motor can always be kept at the most efficient rpm/load when charging the battery. Also with an electric/generator hybrid you dont get the idle waste since whenever the gasoline motor is running it's charging the battery.

True, but I think that's more because a physical transmission that could take the ~12,000ft-lbs of torque they put out would break or be enormous.

That's what I'm suggesting makes a gas motor ideal for light load cruise too. It doesn't care if that light load is coming from a generator or the wheels. And given conversion efficiency of electric generators, you're giving up %efficiency by having to turn gas into power into electricity and then back into power. I suspect it's not as efficient overall.

Would drive a car with that torque.

Diesel is technically can be part of an overall more efficient hybrid system (It's around 10% more energy dense than gasoline--biodiesel is less than gasoline) but it's still dirty and has sooty particulates no matter how clean people will try to convince you it is. Granted it's better now than 30 years ago, but it's still nasty.

How about a bodyfat burning car? That's pretty energy dense stuff.

My neighbor was actually the block designer for that engine. 95 liter, quad turbo, 4,000hp advertized, but it's good for >5000.

Bahurd, that's just another item on the wish list until we have clean electricity.

 

I am planning on vacuforming new headlight lenses for my car.

Current lenses are old, discolored and are riddled with countless hairline cracks.
Trying to decide between polycarbonate and plexiglass.
What do you think?

Also, what would you say about how thick the material should be?
(I'm thinking 2mm should be fine)

The GE Genesis P32AC-DM, which is my daily ride, produces 62,000 ft/lbs at 0 RPM.

That's a lot of torque.

Constructing a clutch to deal with that would be an issue.

As is the fact that, when running in HEP-supply mode, the engine has a useful RPM range of 600-900 RPM. That'd require, what, about a seventy speed transmission? (Plus reverse in all 70 gears).

Still, some locomotives do have traction gearboxes. This one's from an OO-gauge Sentinel:








Is it the same price as, or cheaper than, conventional diesel? If so, it's a potential game-changer. If not, it'll have to wait for either a government mandate or Mad Max.

On the surface, it does look like a promising technology from both a resource-conservation and carbon-neutrality standpoint, presupposing that the insanely large amounts of electricity required as inputs to the process are produced entirely from fossil-free sources. And, as the infographic illustrates, this in in fact one way to make good use of intermittent-generating technologies such as wind and solar, provided that said sources are local to the process rather than grid-coupled.

 

Less than 15 minutes till curfew and there are still hundreds if not thousands still on the streets. Local media has been instructed to not show anything negative all day. You will have to find alternative sources to get the real situation and not the dancing in the streets. There is/was shots fired at officers but getting a straight story is difficult.

In proud parental news:
My son has won another award at school: Model Citizen. Every 6 weeks or so they have a new theme that they concentrate on. This period was civility. Manners, courtesy, respect, that type of thing. It's just a certificate and a cheesy fake medal on a ribbon, but it still makes my day.

 

If I understood correctly, these were sealed cans being loaded into the oven for sterilization, not a bunch of loose tuna.

And that's the point. Even if the guy's body had exploded, all they'd need to do is wash the gore off the outside of the cans; there's really no possibility for contamination of the tuna with human remains.

 

So I just did my first stint in a w2w race. I did not die, hit anyone, or get black flagged. I am very surprised by that. This is what we are racing.
