Today is a simple food day. Why? Because I decided so.
New York Stake
Grilled baby bell pepper
Radish, cucumber, dill and sour cream salad
Hot ajvar
How good was it? It was so good that you would rip a turbo scroll out of a running car, like a beating heart and sacrifice it with a sledgehammer while praying for a piece....

So, thanks to bahurd for the idea.
I did the polenta the traditional way (no cheese), and went light on the liquid. Plated it ahead of time to allow it to cool and solidify into a cake. Went heavy on the creme fraiche and really thickened the hell out of the sauce. Will probably go with a bit more pepper next time (perhaps crushed red pepper) but all in all a delight. Good call on the fennel. This one's going into the recipe folder.

Went to a bakery, had steak and eggs?
Since we were in Koreatown, decided to go for some Korean BBQ since it doesn't seem to exist in Indianapolis. Afterwards, instead of spending $70 to go up to the top of the Empire State building , we went to a rooftop bar nearby and spent $70 on drinks while looking at the Empire State building.
Today ended with finding one of chef Morimoto's restaurants, Momosan Ramen and Sake.

Tonight, I did a "kick-it-up-a-notch" of the cauliflower mornay which I posted about a year ago. Decided I was going to cook the roux until really brown, and then really expose every subsequent step to the fire of hell and deliciousness.
It was a complete and utter failure. No photos, just a reminder that we all **** up badly from time to time, and this is no reason to be discouraged. You chuck that failure in the trash, heat up a microwave meal, and say "GODS FRAKKING DAMMIT, I AM GOING TO DO BETTER NEXT TIME!"
