Id post a picture, but it seems they just blocked all PHOTO storage sites here.... wtf.

Korean BBQ is awesome. We have a place that we go to all the time and the best part is not even the meat (although delicious), but all the side dishes. We also have beef bulgogi now packaged and sold at Costco fresh meat section - marinated in soy sauce and onions. We make Bulgogi taco's - killer stuff.

were supposed to go today, but we pushed it back -- they wanna do bonchon next tuesday first.

Getting back into my groove.

Fry in a skillet with sesame oil over medium heat:
  • 1/3 yellow onion
  • Some ground beef (I'll use ground pork next time.)
Until the onions are tender and the meat is browned.

Reduce heat and add:
  • A shot of rice vinegar
  • A healthy dose of hoisin sauce
  • A dash of soy sauce
  • About 1/4" finely shredded fresh ginger
  • A *tiny* dab of sriracha
  • 1/2 tsp grated garlic

Simmer until reduced to a fairly thick consistency. Plate onto lettuce leaves (I used romaine, as it's what was in the fridge at the time.) Top with toasted sesame seeds.

Bon appétit!

Breakfast. Homemade flatbread with chopped broccoli, sun dried tomatoes, melted Parmesan cheese, and an egg. My wife made it and I wasn't quite awake yet so I don't know what else was in it. But I took a picture.

Beautiful.

I highly encourage that. If you want any recommendations, let me know?

Today was "Thai BBQ" day, because why not?

Picked up some authentic ingredients over in the big Asian section of Houston, evidently one of the largest areas like it in the country? Who knew?
Either way, palm sugar along with fish sauce was obtained and I put the Serious Eats recipes to use, along with the molcajete to blend the flavors.
Once for the marinade and a second time for the sweet chile dipping sauce.

Not bad, even if I did crisp up the skin a bit too much while grilling in the dark.

Take some very liquid batter, a very hot cast iron pan and some vegetable oil

Then make some crepes . Trick is to tilt the pan as you pour batter so that is spreads around and crepes become thin.

Attachment 236853

Take some farmer's cheese, add sugar, add vanilla extract, mix them up.

Take a crepe then a spoonful of farmer's cheese

Attachment 236854

Roll them up like a burrito

Attachment 236855

Serve with sour cream and blueberry jam (like we did) or maple syrup, honey, etc

Attachment 236856

Of course you can serve crepes with red or back caviar, but I didn't have any ready.... so no pictures of that......

Nice!

Braineack 04-02-2018 07:41 PM

TV Chef who was on Top Chef has a bunch a GOOD restaurants in the area. he recently opened like a crazy number of restaurants in Tyson's. It was very meh. BarTaco in Reston is MUCH better. the Margs were on point however and guac was good.

The next day I had fajitas for lunch.

Yes, I'm sure all of the allegations of men abusing women for the last 100 years are blown out of proportion.

But I'm sure if he stuck his thumb up your ass without your permission you'd just lop his head off with a katana.

Braineack 04-03-2018 07:10 PM

You said blown.

Headed to NYC for a few days at the end of the month. Probably staying in the Central Park area. Anyone have restaurant suggestions? I'd like to keep it sub $100/person, not quite a big shot like Braineack.

Central Park covers a *LOT* of ground. Everything from Midtown to Harlem. Where, specifically, are you at?
