Sold the STI last month, just happened to find the exact GT350 I was looking for the very next day. I haven't been subaruless since 2012.
Here is to hoping the blown up voodoo meme doesn't rear its ugly face in my direction.
Any pointers for a OEM-ish replacement turbo for a 2006 OBXT? Pretty sure my turbine fucked off and is now hanging out in the cat. Was running fine, then clank, bang, tingtingtingting and lots of smoke. About to rip everything apart, I ******* hate hate working on subarus...
I had checked and cleaned all but the impossible driver's side banjo filter. Vag-com and lots of cussing at drivers and romraider and I'm actually in the ECU, still 100% OEM tune, was an older guy's car so that makes sense. I had logged a bunch of stuff before all this went down and it looked like everything was doing right. I bought it with a random miss on #4, cylinder roughness was some high number, replaced the injectors and that went away and then the turbo blew.
Brand new clutch, 70K miles and fully loaded. Would be nice to fix this thing for cheep!
I just picked up an 08 wrx for a daily. 227,000 miles, and still.....going.....strong. original engine never opened. Compression good too. Just proves that if driven responsibly and maintained, these car's actually last
I just sold a friend's '02 bugeye wagon for him with original everything except for radiator, clutch, and shocks (i.e. even the head gasket was from the factory!). Left my driveway at just over 283,000 mi.
He also learned to drive on it in the middle of nowhere with a ton of dirt roads and snow (although it received regular maintenance). Mechanical empathy is certainly real, but so is the process control lottery.
'12 WRX, Cobb stage 1 tune, Konig Hypergrams, Nameless Performance axleback, Mishimoto CAI, Kartboy short throw, blah blah blah. Nothing wild. Since I bought my Miata, I've moved from planning Subaru mods to don't blow up the daily. Still love it as a daily, don't have any delusions of making it super fast.
