I've been really enjoying my slow boaty subaru. Heres the newest accessory, makes it SO much more convenient to go ride whenever the hell I want.

Also, blew out one of my shitty all season tires during some shinnanigans yesterday. Hit a transition from pavement to dirt at about ~65, and it felt smooth as butter.. until i heard a terrible hissing. Put a nice 1" gash in my dr. rear tire, so I'm rolling around on the full size spare.
Now, no way I'm just replacing 1 tire on my subaru (sym awd and whatnot), so I decided it's time to man up.. so i've got a set of these on the way in 215/65/16 (about 1" bigger diameter than oem overall).

I'm guessing your gas mileage is going to suffer quite a bit tho.
The bike is always a good idea

Strangely, most reviews that I read online claimed a minimal hit in MPG. I'll see for myself and report back though.

More on my drivetrain noise saga. New fluid did nothing, no chunks came out. I ran out of idea besides it being an inside the trans problem. Dad took it to a buddy of his and he came to the same conclusion. After checking the interwebs it looks like I'm 90% certain that its just the transfer case bearings which I can do with the tranny in the car in a day and only costs $125. I kind of want to put the 20kg JDM STi center diff in, there's a used one for sale on NABSICO right now for fairly cheap like $500 should help make the car even more beast in the snow.
I'm just worried that this wont fix the noise, and if it doesnt then I'm going to be cracking the case open to do all the bearings, and if I do that I might as well do all the seals, and the synchros and put an OBX front diff in. which pumps the cost up to like 2 grand and will take a while.
Or I could get a v8 STi tranny, clutch, fw, diff, and drive shaft, use the WRX front axles, and then put the WRX outer rear axles into the sti inners (I KNOW this works with GR axles so I could do that if it doesnt work with GD, note this only goes for the v7 and v8 jdm rear axles) and that'll be ~$3500 and I'll want to buy a new group-n tranny mount for the 6 speed, and I'll have to figure out what other parts I need from kartboy to make his 5mt shifter kit work with the 6mt stuff and might as well do diff mounts while I'm in there. I'll live with the 35/65 split until I have the spare cash around to get a DCCD controller.

these cars don't have t-cases
also rebuilding the 5sp without upgrading the gears is as dumb as rebuilding a BP without doing rods
also good luck being 3500 all in with a sti drivetrain swap. I've done a few, and it always ends up costing more, unless you get some junky v7 jdm, which is utter garbage, and don't even freshen it up.

Whatever. Do I just spend the $125 and a couple hours and hope that fixes it? I'm not feeling the really feeling the extra $500 for the center diff and I guess if it doesnt fix it I either would have replaced those bearings anyways for the full rebuild or $125 isnt too much money to waste on my way to a 6 speed swap.
