Default College Get'n Hard!

Yeap. My second year and right now I'm in Cal 3 (OMG I somehow passed Cal 2!!!), Statics, Linear Algebra, and Physics 2. Cal 3 is tough but so far not as bad as cal 2. I got 4 HW assignments and a test in cal 3 on Monday. Right now I'm on the second HW assignment. Nothing too hard, but we cover a lot of stuff.

Statics is cool. We're learning how to analyze trusses and things like that. He makes the class hard though. Got a huge HW assignment in there due Monday morning, gotta do it tomorrow. Then I've got Linear Algebra, it's hard too. We go through so much material in one class it's crazy, like 7 chapters so far. Then their's Physics 2. Yea, it's kicking my *** right now. Definitely not looking good, might make my first F unless something changes or he curves it like Mordecai Brown.

I have a C or D in Cal 3, but I'm hoping to do well on the test Monday. Not lost so there is hope, at one point I had a B.
Linear Algebra I have a C. I hope to pull it up.
Statics I have a C or D, but I suspect I'll either get a B or C when it's all over.
Physics owns me worse than EBC owns Chad.

Back to Cal. HW, what a way to spice up my Saturday night.

Yeah that sounds a lot like one of my semesters from a while back. Been there, done that.

Thank god I'm a senior and almost done.

Just what I wanted to hear, seeing how I'm going for ME... I won't give up for nothing though. I'm not the smartest guy here, but I damn sure try hard. I'm allowed to retake two classes to replace a low grade if I have to. Still, I would like to pass physics 2. Hell, I was highest in my class in Physics 1, and now I'm failing? By the way, the entire class is failing for the most part. Like the average is a 60 after he curved both test. Nobody would be passing if he didn't curve. I'm definitely not passing though.

You would be surprised how much they will curve up...they can't fail half the class. Keep trying and you might be surprised what you end up with.

I'm just like tekniscian, got up to Calc III and said screw ME and switched to Materials Engineering (didn't require Calc III back then, now it does but I'm not on that catalog so). I've been super happy ever since and I have an interview with Honda R&D on Monday and have two other job offers so Mat E has worked out quite well for me.

Back to the original topic, just keep trying. In my experience classes get better as you go (not necessarily easier). I've received much better grades in all of my 400 level engineering classes than I ever got in physics and calc.

Good luck man, from a fellow M.E. degree seeker.

Right now I am at the local Community College to get my A.A. (Should have went straight to a 4 year university), but I am transferring to UCF in the fall. Taking Cal 1 right now, and I already got Physics 1 out of the way. My counselor thinks I'm crazy, as I took both of those as electives, as my major currently is general, but I am trying to take care of as many classes that I will need for my M.E. degree at UCF.

I am pretty determined to get my M.E. degree, as that is what I have always wanted to have, and I'm not really sure what I would want to fall back on if this doesn't work out.

Nothing wrong with a comm. college man, I kinda wish I had went to one. For one my car would be FI by now. Plus it helps your GPA. Still working on HW 2 of 4 for calculus 3.

Yeah, thats what I thought...

My car WILL be boosted before I head to Orlando, but I feel like I just got far behind at the comm. college. If I was at UCF I would be taking degree specific classes, where as here I am taking B.S. classes because I have to be degree seeking to get my scholarship money. My GPA sucks *** because I took 32 hours of college classes while in high school and it never hit me that my grades in those classes would effect me now, and I fucked around a lot. I am also working 30-40hrs a week, and if I was in Orlando my college fund would be paying for stuff, but since I live with my parents I have to have a job to pay for the car/cell/food.

two words: study groups

because ME is hard now but it gets harder when you discover beer and women. fluids (not beer and women fluids), heat transfer, thermo.. those will kick your ***. you will need the help of your peers to figure it out.

I saw a very strong correllation between the people who were in the study groups and the people who got decent grades in the hardcore ME classes.

Don't get discouraged at all. Everyone has their ups and downs in certain classes. I agree with y8s regarding study groups. Find some guys/girls that have equal or slightly better study habits as you and start working. Just don't be the guy always asking for help. Do some individual work ahead of time and use the study group to practice explaining the material to other people. If you can teach others how to do the problems, then you know that you have a good grip on the material. This method never failed me.

Classes do get harder and you should be getting busier with internships, research, engineering clubs, etc. So you need to be more efficient with your time or you will get messed up by your classes. You could probably post a hw question or two here once in awhile and we could all argue about how to solve it.

Some more thoughts: Go to class ON TIME! and ready to LEARN! Don't be one of those guys showing up halfway through class or leaving early. It really doesn't pay off. Also, go to office hours with your prof. It's amazing how a little one-on-one conversation time helps you understand the material or just build a relationship with the prof.

Yeah, thanks for the words of advice.

I am going to be living with a good friend of mine, and we are both M.E. degree seekers, so I can probably get some help there. I also plan on trying to get into the Formula SAE program.
