hmmm I will check out the 5-series. Most cars are really not meant to tow another car lol. You don't want the trailer and car to outweigh the car your using to tow it will sway to much. I also hear a car with a short wheel base is not the best to tow

So, you are saying that I am lying? Here in Sweden (we are Swedish, btw, not "european"), you may not tow a combo heavier then 3,5tons with a standard licens (and all towing is limited to 80km/h). An upgraded licens takes months to take and costs a lot. So people tow with combos lighter then 3,5tons. For example, an old Volvo and a trailer.

I'd figure no less than 1,800 lbs. for a tandem axle trailer with brakes.

Longer is better when towing from the bumper. I have a short wheel base Dodge, and it sucks pulling a trailer. I much prefer to use the Ford which is a long wheel base, but it is also a 3/4 ton. There is no comparison in safety. Big trucks also last longer if towing all the time. Little trucks break transmissions, and eat up brakes.

We like our trucks here stateside, and we have to travel farther than you. Safety and reliability become an issue.

There is a reason the law in SWEDEN requires you to go no faster than 50 mph when hauling a car with a car. You are piloting a death trap and it is much worse at 70 or 80 mph.
Did somebody say Audi? Hahahaha! Driving a track car would be more reliable.
OP, why not pick up a cheap, older pick-up truck just for this purpose and find something nicer to DD? If you get something with questionable cosmetics and a good drivetrain you can probably get a deal. And you will have something to haul car parts and yard stuff around in without worrying about messing it up.

Well, if you plan on towing around your car every weekend, you might choose a better tool for the job. But if you plan on just towing every now and then, it will work just fine.

The guys in my pictures has just driven 7,5hours across Sweden, from Gothenburg to Gotland. But of course, if I got to choose, towing with a big truck is much better, no doubt. The problem is, you have to live with the truck the other 355days of the year too.
Anyway, I think I made my point and I'll stop being a PITA. Good luck to OP finding a good car!
