Calling all gun nuts! 1911 opinions
Being a peace loving dirty vegan hippy beatnik, I have decided to purchase a 1911 pistol after I consolidate my credit card debt again. The turbo money has to come from somewhere right? Well I have this awesome little piece of plastic and I can wave it at stuff and I never have to pay for it. I am winning all over your face Visa.
Being so close to nature and existing in a Zensunni harmony with all living things, I truly and deeply understand that an essential part of nature is killing other living things. Because of this awesome perspective, despite my vegan religion and burning man attendance, I have no personal issue with death machines and like tools of ultimate domination and control.
Please note: Like Pushy, I grew up as part the liberal social elite, and sadly, during my youth amid the multiple trips to the Hamptons for private squash tournaments and Brussels for waffle tastings, I never had the opportunity to broadly acquaint myself with firearms.
Today, I am at a sad and ignorant intersection, for yesterday, I shot Sig and Kimber 1911 pistols and truly enjoyed the experience. They were full size, and I perceived less recoil than my .40 S&W Sig P226, and within the first 50 rounds of each gun, was able to shoot much tighter groupings that I do after 2000 rounds with my P226.
I enjoyed the 1911 experience so much that I desire to partake of that experience at will. I want a 1911, for shooting it was sweet like Icewine. What new, accurate out-of-the-box 1911s does MT.net recommend? The use case is casual target shooting and also shooting drills, and if necessary, personal offense. No carrying. Full size please. I curl 50lbs (big boner) and a heavier gun is preferred.
Thank you.

I would never buy a 1911 because I have this fully worked and tefloned P220 and I believe it to be superior to any 1911 I've ever had the displeasure of firing
Sig Sauer's customer service is second only to Ruger and their build quality trumps SA. IDGAF how many Kimber disciples come in here and talk about how awesome their ratchet is and how many olives they've shot at 200 yds.
**** A 1911

I've never owned a 1911 but I have shot a Kimber (and a few others). The Kimber shot like butter. If I had an extra $1500 (what the particular Kimber cost that I was playing with) laying around I would buy one in an instant. However, being the cheap *** that I am I would never shoot it because I would not be able to bear the thought of buying 45 ammo vs the 22's I normally buy.

I used to own a Rock Island 1911 compact. I felt it was heavy for a compact handgun, and I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it. I traded it in for a Glock 19.
This will cause a debate I know it. "If you get hit with a .45 it does a hell of a lot more damage than a 9mm." True, but that's if I can hit you with it. I can throw my 33 round mag in my glock and put all 33 rounds in someone's face at 50 yards.

Part of the thing with big guns and self defense is where is the 2nd shot going to hit. You can have a .50 cal handgun but if it kicks like hell you'll never be able to get the second shot on target. Of course, if you hit with the first shot with that thing you probably don't need to shoot anywhere but at the ground (where he is laying) after that. Although I would never use it for self defense, I'm pretty sure I could put 10 rounds from my P22 in the bad guys chest. That's gotta hurt!
FWIW, I just got back from a local gun show. I put a sign around my chest/back saying I had a Remington 1100 I wanted to sell/trade. The guy at the first table in the door bought it from me for $300. I then spent an hour looking at every table in the place for an AK47. I can't believe there wasn't a single one there. Very strange...

Edit: Oh BTW, I'm not some 1911 purist, I own 1911's in .45 and 9mm, as well as quite a few "plastic guns" and plenty of different styles of rifles, I just hate to see something generalized so easily as "I had a 1911 and it sucked, so all 1911's suck." Although right now all I get to see on a daily basis is my crappy GI M4 and the occasional SAW or 240B

I could buy this AK for $379 without any magazines. Not sure what the shipping is. I'd rather pick one up locally if possible. I know the pawn shops always have them but I haven't check on their prices.

Two things, one not all 1911's are created equal. Two, the more you practice with ANY GUN the better you will be able to handle it, that's just common sense. Any ***** can pick up a .22 and pop ten rounds off and get them on paper, yes. Spend a few days at the range learning how to control your .45 and you'll be able to put all your rounds on paper quick with that too regardless of the recoil.
Regarding rifles, I do not want an AK. I want a Mini-30.

I've heard nothing but good things about Rock Island right up until thirdgen's post. Their "Match" is a big jump in price but most feel it's worth it. Are you going to be doing any bullseye competitions? If not the tactical may be fine.
+1 for building an AK. I'm going to a build party later this month and putting together a PSL (AK derivative).
