Bought yet another Miata (2nd one in 1.5 weeks)
I've been looking for a shell for the V8 and last week I picked up a 97 automatic with 65K miles for $3300. I decided the car was too nice to hack up so I am going to flip it. Today I was driving 200 miles round trip to get a 92 automatic + hard top with 113K for $2000. When we got there we found the hard top was broken on both sides (fiberglass work required), the engine was burning oil and the car had been resprayed cheaply over some rust. We left without buying it but on the way back found a 90 5-speed + hard top with 125K on the side of the road. We stopped to look at it and noticed the for sale sign said $4000. It wasn't worth anything close to that. I knocked on the door, talked to the lady and she said she wanted $2,000 for the car. At $2K it was an ok deal but I made an offer of $1200 and surprisingly she took it. Car is pretty dirty and has a bad valve cover gasket. The paint is a little dull in a few spots but it doesn't have any rust and no major damage. I think I have found my shell for the V8. I'm getting ready to give it a quick wash to see how bad it actually looks. Her boyfriend just changed the clutch but I don't think he messed with the bearings because I can hear a little squeak. I'm assuming it has a new timing belt since it has 125K on the clock but I really don't know. Since the drive train is getting pulled it isn't too big of a deal other than for resale value.
