So the other day I took a photo of a beer that looked interesting based on a Firestone Walker rec earlier in this thread. I didn't buy because $16 for a large bottle of beer was out of budget.
I didnt think much of it, just that I'd have liked to have it.
Then
At my wife's birthday dinner at the whiskiest of all whisky bars
(and yes these are all orderable and no you can't see the other wall-full)
They had the beer on the draft list!
It was everything I dreamed it would be. Everyone who tried it (beer lovers and beer noobs) also loved it. They loved it so much (in liquid volume) that I wished I got a full glass instead of the 4 oz. Oh well.

I paid $11 for a 4 pack of this magnificence last night:
I regret nothing. They also had 4 packs of Backwoods Bastard but my wallet can only take so much physical abuse.
I also pulled this out of the archives:
Matt's Burning Rosids Imperial Cherrywood-Smoked Saison | Stone Brewing Co.
I opened one of these when it first came out and I couldn't quite get into it 'big smokey mess' is the description that came to mind (though its not like I took notes.) I noticed on the label it said it could be cellared so I got a second and decided to let it sit. After 23 months it was 'okay' but dat smoke was still overwhelming. My wife will enjoy a rauchbier from time to time but it was even too much for her. 'Imperial' is not an adjective I would expect to be applied to 'Saison' so I'm not sure what I was expecting. I will say that at 10.5% it packed a whallop. Probably wouldn't buy again but it was worth a try.

I meant what I said, but its an old joke. We had a friend name Dave (pretty sure gesso knows dave) who moved to Australia for a year on a work visa. I want to say this was in the late 90's or early 00's so before social media times when you had to get information by actually interacting with people. I decided to wage a campaign of disinformation against him, for the funs, so whenever anyone brought up Dave being in Australia, I corrected them and said he was in Austria. To this day people are still convinced that he spent a year in Austria, and it was discussed at length at his wedding.
Oh Fosters, how I love/hate thee.
