Quite a few fatties at cons, just something you gotta accept.
I need to work on a better rig for taking pictures in low light. My ghetto paper flash diffuser didnt work that well. That, mixed with fully manual exposure without a light meter made for many missed shots. |

For this I was using my Pentax K10 as it does better at high ISO than my Canon does.
The problem is that I dont have a modern TTL flash, so I have to do manual exposure (without the aid of the light meter as well), which is a problem because I was constantly at different distances from the subject. I made a diffuser for the flash out of some heavy watercolor paper the nigh before. Ill have to take pics of the diffuser, it is very ghetto looking. Im sure the other photographers thought I was nuts. |

Just thought I'd say I love this thread sooo much! It has got me through a lot of slow night shifts. Thanks everyone!
EDIT: Does not seem right without a picture, so http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/958/img0302qp.jpg ^ That's how I got Godzilla home ^ Dealing with RHD and cross province in Canada is a major pain in the ass! |
That's a good solution you found though, turning it around.

That settles it, I'm going to start attending cons. Hell, I live 20 minutes from San Diego, and we have the biggest geek-convention in the known universe here. I've been to the last two w00tstocks, but never the main event. |

Oakville is a lovely place. They have Lonestar and... err.. wait, that's it. :fawk: Only way Oakville would get gayer is if JRP moved west across Winston Churchill... do Sauga a favor, we need them, trust me. |
Hahaha.
When I lived in Mississauga I think my subs and amp lasted me about 3 weeks before someone smashed my window, stole it and vandalised the shit out of my car. They tried to crow bar my trunk 14 times before realising that it was not going to budge, then tried to crow bar all the doors before finally smashing one of the windows and hitting the trunk release. Used amp and two 10 inch subs: $200 Speaker box: $100 Body and paint shop: $2200 3 weeks of hearing damage total: $2500 No insurance for any of that. I've lived in Oakville since 2003 and have left my windows down overnight on more then one occasion without anything ever going missing. It is lame as fuck over here and even more so ever since the old Sharkey's closed down, I'll give you that. Was a great place to buy when I was looking for a house and as an added bonus if I forget to close my garage at night my GTR all my tools will still be there ;) |

In Canada, if somebody is stealing your shit, can you shoot them? Not trying to make another gun discussion, just curious.

http://www.dlsports.com/custom_woode...0-1911-med.jpg I had a law teacher explain it to me like this. Say you catch someone in your house stealing your VCR (I'm old, I know) and you beat the shit out of them, they can charge you with assault. He said that you would have to be holding the VCR and have the person rip it out of your hands, then it becomes assault and you beating them up is self defense... its very lame indeed. I think if your dog were to bite someone that broke in here you would catch shit for that unless you had a "Beware of Dog sign" clearly posted. The way I see it if you are in my house uninvited then I should be able to do whatever it takes to get your ass out ASAP, but not in Canada sadly. I am very envious of the laws you guys have in the US with regards to home invasions and guns. EDIT: I always loved the look of that gun, is that a Colt 1911? |

It's a 1911, but I don't think it's a Colt 1911, and if it is, they modernized it. You can tell because of the safety on the back of the grip below the beaver tail. If you want to know for sure I'd go to the gun thread and ask Pusha. |

Most of the trains of that era, both IRT and BMT, have the same basic color scheme, going as far back as the mid 70s vintage R46s that are still in use on the A line (those cars absolutely suck- the HVAC system has only two settings (off and broken) and you can never hear the conductor.) The newer trains, like the R142 and R160 have a much simpler design scheme, with light blue bench seats. I find these more efficient in terms of seating- it's easier to squeeze more people into the same linear seat space. They also have automated, pre-recoded station announcements which are actually intelligible and moving-map displays which show the present location of the train relative to all of the stops on that route. Very nice, especially if you're riding a line that you're not intimately familiar with. |

The solution is simple as elaborated by a former police officer now gunsmith & CCW instructor. Much unlike hollywood movies, post shooting in your home or place of business will not produce a police swat team seconds from the event. In his words, "Assuming you haven't already called 911, there will be quite a lot of time between the incident and police on scene. Plenty of time to issue the perpetrator a weapon of choice from your own kitchen for example." This may sound extreme, but I'd have no sympathy for some piece of shit who crosses the line to take something that doesn't belong to them. If you could shoot someone for breaking your car window out to steal a 99$ cd player and not face any criminal prosecution, I Think the world would be a better place. |

Now if they can just get the metrocard/turnstiles working better...fill up metrocard for one fare, swipe metrocard into turnstile as you walk thru, crush your nuts, read display that says "reswipe same card", swipe to then see "card empty", your F'ed, wife mouths off at you and your retardness, Guy behind gate has compassion and lets you thru. Anyway...other than that NYC subways system kicks major ass IMHO, with my limited Manhattan-only experience. |

What's odd is that the A line is the other major JFK connector (via Howard Beach) and those are some of the oldest, crappiest trains still in the system. swipe metrocard into turnstile as you walk thru, crush your nuts, read display that says "reswipe same card", swipe to then see "card empty", I don't think I have ever gotten into a situation where I "lost" a fare because of it- you just have to do what the display says; re-swipe the card at that turnstile- do not move to a different one. Still and all, much preferable to carrying a bunch of tokens around in your pocket. I don't miss those days.

Kind of a neat lineup. ipod Touch 2nd gen 16gb, HTC EVO 4G, Samsung GalaxySII 4G Touch.. The screen resolution on the SII Touch isn't over the top, but the screen is just so vivid its ridiculous! The camera takes superb photographs in nearly any light and the 720p video recording is also out of this world quality! (Sound capture does suck on videos, though.) The S2 has 16gb memory onboard with 32gb tflash acceptance and the battery lasts me just over 16 hours with average use! Only thing that tweaks me is they removed the damn dedicated mini-hdmi output and integrated it into the USB slot, so you need ANOTHER adapter... Touch sensitivity is through the roof, as is the dual-core 1.2ghz processor (which I've already OC'd.) Wicked if you're looking for an Android phone. |
Gotta love Samsung's latest OLED technology!
