Yes, I know Phil Collins played his own drum part. |

Back from the day when you couldn't CGI that shit in an afternoon. I also find it interesting that "Theatre" is spelled correctly and not as the now-more-ubiquitous "Theater".
Meanwhile, all sorts of other effects were being developed to produce imagery which looked similar to computer animation, without the actual expense. Some were totally manual processes derived from slit-scan technology. In the movie TRON, for instance, all of the glowing effects on the characters outfits were done totally by hand, using backlit techniques on huge blow-ups of each film frame similar to rotoscoping. Meanwhile, those cool animations you saw on Sesame Street and 3-2-1 Contact were mostly done on an electronic system called the Scanimate, which was a completely analog video synthesizer. |

Joe,
Your motion graphics nostalgia made me think of the opening credits to the movie Bullet. For your viewing pleasure, from 1968... |

Kangaroos that can't fight realised that they needed something else to gain internet fame.
The answer: Air Guitar! https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...84fad7b4b7.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...a3e7741bec.png https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...0e5c2d53ea.jpg That last one won the 2023 comedy nature photo of the year, with the downed head, closed eyes and outward belly, really nailed it! |
^ Nice.
Don't bother turning up the audio on this one, just bask in the visuals: I'm pretty sure that the AI has never seen video of an actual cat playing a guitar. And yet it's done an excellent job with the movement, inertia, etc. The drummer is especially impressive. We're not far from the point at which it will be impossible to distinguish fiction from reality. |

The sticker that was on the wrapper would have been single digit $, probably the ubiquitous $9.95, when I bought it from a box of 'on-sale' dvds a few years ago. I buy 'interesting' films on dvd, if they are cheap enough. Still looking for Solvent Green though ... |

No, I think he's referring to a movie about environmentally-friendly solvents. It's a little dry but does lend some green cred to the viewer.

Finally, a meme that's fits the (current) thread title:

So I guess my question is... why? What kind of constraints or requirements decided THIS was the optimum engine configuration??? https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...f7521f00ef.jpg |

The "I buy 'Merican" Cat owners are generally mouth breathers who don't know anything about their own machinery. It's a global mix of components and suppliers. Caterpillar is currently marketing their GC line of excavators and wheel loaders right alongside their regular lines. The GC units are 100% Chinese designed and built. No parts aside from the overpriced Caterpillar ignition key are interchangeable. I speculate that GC means "Gone Chinese" but haven't seen the official press release. |

I guess you're about to have to jack up the price of those by 25%. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...a5b6b945d8.png https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...ea9c240fe3.png https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...fa3588650e.png https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...59a777f7b1.png |

What with it being labor day weekend in the US, I've been a grillin' an' a smokin'.
Trying something totally different today, salmon candy on the pellet smoker. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...71b37e3de2.png Started this on Saturday. Sliced up a 2lb fillet, brined it overnight in a mix of water, brown sugar, and kosher salt. On Sunday morning, rinsed off and left to dry for 24 hours on a baking rack in the fridge. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...3a6708c960.png Today, smoked at 170°F for about 90 minutes, then brushed with a glaze of honey and melted butter, smoker turned up to 250°F until the salmon reached an internal temp of 145°F. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...c8bcabea0d.png It's deliriously good. There may be none left tomorrow. |

I passed by this door on the way into work this morning.
It is bothering me more than I'd care to admit. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...9bc3455c5b.png |
I get it, but after thinking about it for a bit, is it actually genius? The awning is actually centered up where you'd actually stand to open the door and step through.

I'd never even heard of Paul Harrell before today. But goddamn, he did in fact apologize for his own death. That's sincerity right there. |
I read the comments on most articles based on the title more than the actual txt. This was one case when I really had to question our humanity. The story was on yahoo and there were terrible comments about his death. Mostly because he was an outdoors and firearm advocate.

There have been psychological experiments where "normal" people administered lethal punishments to other volunteers at the behest of someone with perceived authority. That is without the additional dehumanization of the target. I recommend the book (or audiobook) "Influence" by Dr. Chaldini of Arizona State University for a host of reasons, including the discussion of that experiment. Dehumanization of our fellow man should be loudly and vehemently opposed by all of us when we encounter it. Otherwise... insert your family here https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...IWM_BU4260.jpg |

Interesting fact is that many German soldiers involved in the WWII executions committed suicide later in life, they could never come to terms with what they did and were ordered to do - humanity eventually prevailed. We should also question what we'd have done in their position before judging them, they had little/no choice in their actions if they wanted to live and there would have been repercussions for their own family. Unlike the Japanese, who'd had an entire generation of brainwashing before WWII that they were superior and others were no better than dogs, most Germans were proud of their country but weren't ALL Nazis or believers in "The Master Race" (that last one always "got me", Hitler didn't meet "The Master Race" specification so how could he lead it or support it?). Apologies if this post doesn't adhere to forum guidelines, but they are documented facts and NOT personal opinions. |

Nice. We printed ours and also placed it between two blinded windows. Bambu FDM printers are too cheap to not have a few.
