He was older and had 150% more charicature level and a funny voice. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...00758d6bf8.png High school drafting teacher also had a big mustache and strange personality. #1 joke in that class was, of course, holding the eraser brush in front of your mouth and mocking his voice. He laughed every time and then gave you detention. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...106b506b8f.png I still use 2B in my mechanical pencils. so soft and lovely. fuck that HB noise. |

I didn't realize there was a big issue following the drawing standards already in place. |

If you both understand the capabilities of the manufacturing system, then it is easy to get what you expect.
Dennis was about my age, and was well versed in Solidworks. His predecessor, Dave, grew up with a drafting table and a pen. You could tell just by looking at them which products Dave had designed and which ones Dennis did. Dave's panel designs were very boxy and angular, Dennis had a flair for curves and interesting patterns. Trouble is, Dennis' stuff was a real pain in the ass to manufacture. Dave knew that the fab shop was going to be cutting this stuff on a turret press and folding it with a 200 ton brake which I suspect was originally used to manufacture battleship hulls during WW1. His parts weren't fancy, but they always fit together. Dennis could never accept that just because he could specify a tolerance to 0.001" didn't mean that the shop could actually hit that number repeatably, and that designing interlocking parts such that it's an interference situation if they're +0.01" off isn't a good idea in a mass-production environment under those conditions. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...b9be9e775a.png |

First, select this plot style: https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...852f5fff6d.png Second, un-check this box: https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...018d0b6a52.png Viola! Legible prints. |

I took a couple drafting and blueprint classes in college. They helped me slightly and certainly added to my confusion. This is probably why im freezing my ass off on the roof trying to thaw and get an RTU working. Instead of sitting in a warm comfortable office sipping lattes and drawing pictures.
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...dc86e1a4ec.jpg This is a high demand industry though, and decent money. |
Came across this drawing today. I have shown the general drawing, including the assembly view (minus the not yet added panel). Then a blow-up of the assembly view. What is wrong with that view?

looks reasonable. why is the assembly complete on one side of the drawing and not the other? https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...8bf44b4ee7.png I'd also put a gap/dummy panel in there to show people where the lock |

The threads looked to be a weird pitch.
Anybody interested in some high tension power line insulators? My customer is about to end up with a surplus of about 216000 of them. |

The actual parts are correct. Interesting to me that someone would go through the trouble to model a lock washer, but do it wrong. Guess it was done by an engineer instead of a draftsman. |
I was thinking, getting a 3/8" socket onto those nuts when they are on .500 centers may be a little tight. Should work though.

y8s wins. That LW would work OK for left-handed threads.

I used my grandfather's tap/die kit to cut some threads on a ⅝" rod yesterday so I could add some HF pneumatic wheel/tires to my generator.

This is a really fascinating video. It's a realtime recording of the Apollo 13 incident, with the flight director (Houston internal) intercom loop in the left channel, and the capcom (spacecraft) radio on the right, starting just before the event and continuing for a full hour, along with a graphical depiction of the AGC DSKY, the spacecraft itself, and film taken during the event.

I'm captivated by crash test videos. That Nissan Tsuru is the old Sentra- likely marketed to third world countries? Ouch.
|
More jafro goodness.
|
I rented a Tsuru in Baja for a week last spring. I think it weighed 1600 lbs? It would get stuck in the dust because it was too light. It had a single red LED bulb in the gauge cluster for a warning light. No labels, just "SOMETHING IS WRONG"
But I got to rent a manual, and I never got pulled over, because this is what all the taxis look like in Mexico. My folks went to the same town this week. I told them to rent a SUV. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...96ccde39ff.jpg |
