0-200 mph in 8 seconds:
http://www.roadandtrack.com/motorsports/a13097481/bloodhound-ssc-1000-mph-first-test-run/ "The engineering behind the Bloodhound SSC is fascinating. Powered by both an EJ200 jet engine and a rocket, the record-chasing car uses so much fuel, its fuel pump is powered by a supercharged 550-horsepower Jaguar V8 from the F-Type R." |

Came across this today:
"So this software project is a soft body physics simulator. The devs have built this highly physically accurate models of cars, and a really accurate physics simulation. Then they made tools so people could create their own simulated situations.... like a game. Its all real-time. People make some crazy situations... its about the closest we get to seeing these insane situations happen with hollywood style camera shots." If it is physically accurate, I'd sure like to get me some of whatever kind of chains they were using on the logging trucks. EDIT: I just realized this is the same physics engine sim platform that was used in the "speed bumps" video a little ways back. |

I bought some ethernet switches.
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...d9c8b0f7f0.png It turns out to be surprisingly hard to photograph this many ethernet switches at once. |
I built a new desk, looks similar:

Looks like a bunch of Cisco Catalyst 3850s, although it's hard to tell.

Man says girlfriend’s mutilated body with missing organs is blow-up doll with human flesh Read more here: Man charged with mutilating girlfriend, claims she's a doll made of human flesh | Miami Herald http://www.miamiherald.com/news/loca...PE_1140/wright When police found Deanna Clendinen’s mutilated body on Friday, her boyfriend told them there was a misunderstanding: The body, he said, was that of a life-size, blow-up doll with human flesh. The cops didn’t buy it. Instead, after searching the man’s home and finding a scene resembling the film Silence of the Lambs, they arrested Jerome Ernest Wright, 32, and charged him with abusing a dead human body. The woman’s stomach had been lacerated and many of her internal organs removed, police said. As of Monday, Jerome Wright had not been charged with the woman’s murder. He not only denied killing her — he claimed the body wasn’t even human. Still, police said, a murder charge is on the table. According to police, they arrived at the home at 6268 NW 23rd Ave., just past 7:30 p.m. Friday after being notified of a foul smell. Wright’s mother Della Rosalie Wright had called the police. She told police she lived alone with her son and led them to his bedroom, where she said the odor was coming from. As the cops got closer, Jerome Wright walked out of his room, “naked and sweaty,” police said. He told them he had a stomachache. Inside his room, police said they found body fluids on a trash can and on a mattress. Then, inside a closet, they found a badly mutilated body covered in sheets. A decomposed leg was sticking out, police said. Then, police said, they began questioning Della Wright, who told them she lived alone with her son and that his girlfriend, Clendinen, 52, often stayed with her son. She told police that when she asked her son what the smell was, he said “he saw a rat in his room, had diarrhea and that the dog defecated on the floor.” That’s when police began questioning Jerome Wright, they said. He told them that whatever was in his room was not real. Then, the defendant stated that there was a life-size blow-up doll in the closet, and that the doll was made of flesh. Police said Jerome Wright also repeatedly said that “if you find something in my room it’s from the Internet.” Before he was arrested, he also told police he hadn’t seen Clendinen in five months. When police took a closer look at Clendinen’s body, they said they found a large laceration across her midsection and that several of her internal organs were missing. They said they found them outside in a garbage can adjacent to the home. Jerome Wright was arrested last March and charged with aggravated battery against Clendinen. He was on probation when police found her decomposed body. I hated that show so very much when it was in original syndication, and I despise it even more today.

I'm a little pissed right now.
Gillette discontinued the Excel-series razor handle many years ago, although I have pretty much a lifetime supply of blades. I decided to buy an additional handle, as they're getting hard to find, and I don't want to ever be without one. Found a listing on eBay from a seller with a highly positive rating. This was the listing photo: https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...9a419f632b.png That's the original. Well, not the original original, but pretty much identical aside from the color of the rubber inlay. Cylindrical, all-metal shaft, with holder. That's the one I own. The one I cherish. The one I pack in my bag every time I fly. Which is kind of the whole point of buying a second one. This is what I received: https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...015126b33b.png What the fuck is this curvy plastic bullshit? Not even sure if it's worth my time to request a refund on a $13 purchase... It's probably not. But I'm annoyed. |

For some reason the vibrating shaver (they aren't razors) handles really work well. I figured a pulsing blade against my throat would be a bad idea, but gave it a shot anyway. That shit seriously makes even dull blades cut well without burn. It's the magic of science, or the science of magic; I can't tell which.

The problem I have is that while the 4/5/6 blade units that seem to be all the rage these days are fine for quickly clearing large areas, they are difficult (bordering on impossible) to use for fine-detail work on the mustache, eyebrows, etc. The cartridge is just too damned large.
Why are razors getting less good over time? I'm seriously thinking that I may need to just invest in an old school double-edge butterfly safety razor... |

I'm usually not awake enough to consider using something more dangerous than a shaver, so I'm good for now. Maybe some day. The cartridges I use actually have a 5/6/7th? blade on the back for trimming. I've gotten good enough to know where the first blade is, that I rarely use it, but it's there. I use itty bitty scissors on my eyebrows. http://www.aveleyman.com/Gallery/ActorsS/16548-5459.gif :-D |
I'm not really certain what's going on here. Is this like a fight club for girls that are mad a men? |
Just another facet of Portland. Something that helps us get through the 9 months of gray and rain.

I despise electric shavers. They just don't do an adequate job, in my experience, of reducing my swarthy facial hair to an acceptably smooth topology. My beard-growth is of the worst kind. Scraggly, but firm and coarse. Picture Fidel Castro in his younger years, or the stereotypical "Islamic Terrorist" poster child, and you've got some idea. I've been mistaken for Sicilian, French, Israeli, Greek, and pretty much every other Mediterranean ethnicity imaginable. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...0b35907481.png |

I'm 29, i've been using an electric shaver just about all my life.. i dont have a beard other than the flavor saver and a mustache. In the past 3 months i've started using a razor and my beard is finally showing. That is all.
