It's just a literal overlay. So that one can compare directly the latitudes of Europe to North America. Most murricans don't realize how high Europe is.

That particular map is also useful for demonstrating to Europeans just how big the US & Canada are. --Ian |

Same goes for Turkey / Greece / Italy / etc. Rome is at the same latitude at freaking Chicago?! https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...4acf77c986.png By comparison, it's no wonder that Spain / Portual / Morocco are so awesome. |
When I was in northern Scotland, it didn't really get dark until well after 11PM. And the sun was up by 4AM.

And yeah, 4 cigars in 5 hours is a bit much. Like I said, I'm hoping that's what it was. Saturday was constant, unending pain, felt like Hustler's mom was sitting on my chest. Sunday was pain only when moving around or inhaling deeply. Today, the pain is mostly gone, but I still have some discomfort and a cough when I take a very deep breath. Never experienced anything like this before. I've had severe respiratory distress associated with allergic reactions when I was a kid, but this was different. No itching, no runny nose or red eyes, nothing at all other than a feeing of "holy shit, I think I may literally be having a heart attack." I'm still a little freaked out that this has gone on for three days, but at least I do not appear to be dying. Next time, call 911. Most EMS departments do a 12 lead on the spot. If they say you are having a heart attack, go with them. If they say that everything looks normal, just refuse transportation. My local service doesn't charge for non-transport call. Even if they do charge for a 12-lead, it won't cost much, and it's worth knowing whether or not you had a heart attack or not. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...300051c3b3.jpg |

You should still be able to claim COBRA coverage at the old place if it hasn't been 30 days.
Watch me drain! |
You could have been sitting home with minor discomfort sipping a beverage instead of wasting time at the hospital.
Priorities, Joe. Have you tried R.L. Seales rum? |
What was your last day at your previous employer? AIUI (at least in CA), employer-provided health insurance is done on month boundaries. So if your last day was in July, then under those rules you'd be covered until 7/31, even if you'd finished that job on, say, 7/2. No idea if the same applies in Chicago or not.
Get well soon! Also, bizarre that they let you keep your pants. --Ian |

Shit Joe! I hope you get better soon!

X ray this morning showed the lung re- inflating, and I can breathe a lot better. Still under suction on the chest tube, producing drainage:
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...e15e17387e.jpg I'll tell you what's weird as hell here is the cafeteria menu. I thought hospitals didn't serve shit which causes the things they treat here in the cardiac imu ward. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...0e798a53f9.jpg Biscuits & sausage gravy? Pizza? French fries? Bbq? It just keeps going... |
If they cured everyone, they'd be out of business.
I'm glad to see it's not a heart attack. https://static.wixstatic.com/media/8...a4fe9d~mv2.jpg |

Sorry to hear about the lung Joe, I've been through that 6 times now. Every time it's been spontaneous and took multiple surgeries + many chest tubes...Hope you get better quickly!

From what I'm learning, this condition usually occurs only in tall, skinny white males. My sister sent me this: https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...cbaceabc5e.jpg |
Get well soon Joe!
Lung catch can. LOL! I always wondered what causes a lung to collapse. From medlineplus.gov: Collapsed lung (pneumothorax)A collapsed lung occurs when air escapes from the lung. The air then fills the space outside of the lung, between the lung and chest wall. This buildup of air puts pressure on the lung, so it cannot expand as much as it normally does when you take a breath. The medical name of this condition is pneumothorax. CausesCollapsed lung can be caused by an injury to the lung. Injuries can include a gunshot or knife wound to the chest, rib fracture, or certain medical procedures. In some cases, a collapsed lung is caused by air blisters (blebs) that break open, sending air into the space around the lung. This can result from air pressure changes such as when scuba diving or traveling to a high altitude. Tall, thin people and smokers are more at risk for a collapsed lung. ouch. |
^^ boost creep?
Once again, proof that life's to short for cheap cigars Joe "Tall, thin ... smokers are more at risk for a collapsed lung" Hope you have a speedy recovery Joe! |
