That is some amazing welding, no matter what the material was.

And people say "StAinLeSs CanT CoRroDe".
Let me prove to you that it can and does. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...8473039469.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...1ee2463ee5.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...a642a98d89.jpg |
Anything can corrode if you try hard enough.
Was that a purely chemical reaction, or was there galvanic activity as well? https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...e0b557cde2.png |

I have to share this...
This is how I hacked into the gearbox to fit my starter. I hated how the jagged cuts would compromise the integrity of the bellhousing. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...e6adb9ead.jpeg So there is this welder guy. He specializes in aluminum welds. I asked him if my hack job could be covered up. This is what he did... https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...2a87ced46.jpeg That is more art than welding. |

I think the DI water does worse things than the acid. I'm not a chemist, so i can't even begin to explain why. Something about a free ion or ion exchange. It wrecks copper too.
The academic engineer says this material should withstand this stress. The practical engineer notes that boiling, caustic liquid is spraying out of multiple perforations in the material. Which one is right? Both, assuming that the proper documentation was filed. This reminds me of an old joke. What is the difference between a mechanical engineer and a civil engineer? The mechanical engineer designs weapons. The civil engineer designs targets. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...403cc24680.png |

I set the timer to shut the light off after 8 minutes, i figured five is a little bit too quick. sometimes I poop for more than 5 minutes. It took literally 3 hours for somebody to complain that the lights shut off on them after they were sitting on the throne for over 8 minutes. That is daily nonsense. I've got 3 contractors working on 2 different multi thousand dollar jobs. I'm in the process of writing 3 different CERs for different future projects. I've got 8 applications for 2 open positions I have. I still don't have a damn quote for a scissor lift. Oh and somehow I still manage to keep the line going. I am not an engineer. When the pipe busts, we just replace it. But this time was special. See I built a shield. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...569781d80f.jpg The root cause of the pipe failure is actually because of a genius design I came up with years ago. See we have this tank called the etch tank and it contains sodium hydroxide and a blend of herbs and spices. Long story short when it inevitably overflows out of the tank (or general carryover) it turns into concrete. If it gets between the tanks It can actually push the walls of the tanks together cracking and breaking the tank or moving the tank. So we take the rinse water from our anodized bath which is sulfuric acid and pump it between the tanks spraying down the caustic solution with acid solution to help dissolve all that sodium hydroxide concrete. The downside is that acid rinse water will almost destroy everything and anything else in it's path. |
"What shall we do about this sodium hydroxide buildup?"
"We could spray sulfuric acid all over the whole area." https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...d09ea9808b.png |
