It's amazing how, when I was in high school at least, they did, in fact, all look like that.

I hate bad residential wiring.
I mean, I knew the place had cloth/paper-insulated wiring when I bought it. The old kind, which has a sort of tar-like substance impregnated into the cloth, which becomes brittle after 60 years or so. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...36287c0c81.png But this one also seems to include instances of "let's loosely twist these two conductors together, wrap some tape around them, and stuff it behind this switch, and that'll be good enough to supply all lighting and power outlets on the whole 2nd floor." https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...f8aed476d2.png You know copper conductors tend to blacken when heated? Every single one I've seen thus far has been black. I seriously have no idea why every single house in this neighborhood hasn't burned down due to electrical fire. I also now have to nix the idea of installing an air conditioner on the 2nd floor until I come up with a plan for running new electrical up there. Probably gonna have to take out a section of the finished ceiling in the basement. (It really shouldn't have been drywalled over in the first place, as that is the region where all of the gas / water / electrical / heat ducting congregates.) And I'll bet you a dollar that wallboard contains asbestos. |
Also, they're getting pretty good at these:
