Yeah, I saw that recently as well. I have no idea why one would do that for some perceived small benefit for the CoG.
Who wouldn't want to expend a huge amount of effort and money on a project which yields virtually no benefit and leaves you with a sub-par transmission and a less reliable, harder-to-service engine than when you started?

An interesting quote.
Personally, I consider atheism to be a religion. Much as someone who is Jewish believes that "God absolutely does exist in this specific form," someone who is an atheist believes that "God absolutely does not exist."
Both are articles of faith.
I also don't see what's so bad about being associated with atheists, provided that they're not of the annoyingly evangelical type. (You know, the ones who openly mock people who profess a belief in one or more deities at every opportunity, kind of like evangelical vegans.)
I honestly have no recollection of that. But if you do happen to find it, I'm interested.
And I also don't want it to sound as though I have anything against any specific religion, or religion in general. Quite to the contrary, I think that at a very basic, foundational level, most religions which are practiced in the present day have their origins in some form or another of "Don't be a dick."
And that's a good thing.
Where I do start to have an issue is where people start to use religion as a tool to deny fact. As an example, my mother & sister are both very firmly convinced that the universe was created six thousand years ago over the span of six 24 hour days, that a dude gathered literally every single species of animal on the entire earth into one specific point in the middle east and then went on a nice boat ride with them because more water than exists on the whole planet all fell as rain at once...

This is the random pictures thread, not the religion thread, and so here is a picture of a thing which, so far as I have been able to ascertain, is actually a real thing:
In keeping with the real thing related pics idea... does anyone see the irony?
My current project vehicle has one of these that can be opened about 140 degrees. It makes the inoperable A/C not that much of an issue even in the 90F weather we had recently.
I'll see your religious upbringing, and raise you hippie commune. You want to talk about righteous ignorance...
I missed this earlier. (Apparently you hit "Submit" a few seconds before I did.)
I can only partially empathize. I've only ever known one couple who were of a "we're going to join this bunch of people who are peacefully living off the land" mentality. And yeah, they scared me a little. Not in an "I feel threatened by you" sense, more in a "Your vote counts as much as mine" sense.
Yeah, it's no coincidence that I'm an atheist and scientist as an adult. In a lot of ways, I want to compare the social structure on the commune to the old Soviet adage: everyone is equal, but some people are more equal others. Also, everyone was poor and dirty.
This is the goober the commune was based on. You can read up on his philosophy on Wikipedia if you're so inclined:
Don't preach to me about evangelical religious types until you review these thumbnails of my aunt and uncle and cousin hanging with their close friends, the Duggars:
