My wife used to work at a large hospital and from what she says, its all about the patient care numbers these days. All they care about is your after survey, so they'll do a lot of things to make your experience better. The surveys drive their rankings and that is what determines income (directly and indirectly)

I still have a boost leak. Can hear the air passing through my lung and then bubbling through the catch tank. Apparently I have to sit and be bored for several more days before they'll go in and staple it.

No idea. Seems like pleurodesis is more common than staples these days, but neither has been mentioned in my case. We're just sitting here going super slow and conservative.
