The mechanical & electrical plant at my TV station is immaculately clean and well-maintained.
It's also populated by a bizarre array of sculpture and art. George, the building superintendent, creates this stuff in his spare time out of discarded items.
While I'm sure he will never be remembered as well as [insert famous artist name here], there are a couple of those paintings I wouldn't mind having on my walls.
each painting is a visual representation of how underpaid and overworked he is...
That was my initial reaction the first time I went up there. But I gotta tell you- George is the best building super I've ever worked with. He runs the whole M&E plant pretty much all by himself, and also takes care of routine maintenance stuff down on the human floors of the building as well (fixing leaky faucets, un-clogging toilets, replacing light bulbs, etc.) His workmanship is immaculate, he responds to problems immediately, has a perfectly-organized and well-stocked room full of spare parts for every panel and machine in the building (some of which are approaching 60 years old), and basically takes care of the place like he owns it.
So yeah, he's building sculptures and making art on company time. And I have absolutely no problem with that whatsoever.
Since my engine is broken and I have no motivation to work on things I just weld random **** together now. Made a couple little filler men and welded some razors together today. First time welding razors, kinda fun.
