That was the whole point. Zambonae use augurs to scrape off the top layer of ice and deposit the shavings into a holding bin, thus producing a smooth and level surface. Cold planers do the same thing to concrete / asphalt road surfaces.

Technically it replaces what it removes (water tank onboard) so subtractive + additive? Would the cold planer also not need a adder?
