half a kilometer high? Umm no, instead just spin the person on a centrifuge and be done with it.

"Building a centrifuge? Just shoot them in the face."

What you sound like.

Shoot them in the face? Just have sex with your mom.

I had no idea the dogs had their own pressure suits. I knew the chimps did, so I guess it makes sense...

The corporate guru of configuring Cisco switches was in town, and I let him use my PC to log into the 10th floor core switch and run some diagnostics. This is one of the huge Enterprise-grade Catalyst 6509s.

He walked away and left it logged in as administrator:

He either trusts you a ton, or you are higher up on the food chain then him. If I was to ever give someone else admin privileges on one of our routers or switches at work that should not be on them, I would be promptly fired.

He bent some wire in circles, and somehow is in a fuckin museum? I was expecting a scale demonstration, with measurements of how many g-forces are exerted. Fucking artists.

I'm thinking it was more the fact that he was on his way out the door to catch a plane, and had already shut down and packed up his laptop when I asked him if he'd bothered to make sure that the last change he'd applied to a trunk config had actually fixed the problem it was supposed to (that a certain port was getting flooded with all sorts of unsubscribed multicast traffic that wasn't supposed to be there.)

As far as hierarchy, I have no idea. He works for corporate, and isn't a manager, so is probably below me, but it's not really a straight-line relationship since he reports to the corporate IT department. I'm the engineering manager at the station, and have overall responsibility for making sure the station works properly. So while I'm technically allowed to have admin access to any machine here, there are some systems I don't WANT to have access to, and the core switches are among them. I know just enough about configuring these Catalysts to accidentally turn off the entire WAN, which would probably have undesirable consequences.
