Heh. That was just a saved replay, which I have noticed looks much better than the actual in-game action. Also takes a hell of a lot longer to render.

(Though on the plus side, I'm quite happy with the performance of my $30 video card in TF2.)

Am I the only one who has found that the phrase "Push little cart!" has entered their daily vocabulary as an utterance made towards any tedious or unpleasant task which, nevertheless, must be done?

Braineack 01-23-2012 12:41 PM

I play a lot more BF2 BF3, so I say "plant the bomb" a lot.

manily I [S][D] errrr damn day.

Dual-core 2.0 GHz, 4 GB DDR2, and an 8800GTS can run this game? Will have to check out, haven't played PC games at all since UT2004.

Braineack 01-23-2012 12:49 PM

absolutely, it's an older game and not very intense for graffffix. (cartoony)

my steam stats:

BFBC2 - 359 hours
CS - 45 hours
GRID - 57 hours
L4D - 440 hours
L4D2 - 265 hours
TF2 - 70 hours

that doesnt account for all the years I played CS before steam was even released...

TF2 is an easy one, hardware-wise. Like Scott said, the graphics are very cartoonish and simple, not a lot of reflective-surfaces-in-fog sort of stuff.

Best of all, it's free. Completely free. Free as in free to download, free to play: http://store.steampowered.com/app/440

I kind of lost interest in PC gaming around 1999 as well. Portal got me re-interested, and TF2 got me re-addicted.

Mine:
CS:Source - 103 hours
L4D - 21 hours
Skrim - 22 hours
Garrys Mod - 15 hours

I was using steam before they started recording the play time, so a lot of my CS:S is not accounted for. Also, I had another account before this one.
Id like to document all the lengths of saved games for PS2 that I have. I know I have a couple games that took me like 80 hours just to play through, and then there is GT4 which I put an absurd amount of time into.

No, TF2 (and probably other Steam apps) has a built-in capture mode. You hit F6 after you die to capture a replay of the previous life.

Braineack 01-23-2012 02:40 PM

one time I cannon rushed a zerg and won.

I'd been out of town for a couple of months, and didn't have much time to play after I got back until the past few days.

Had a really great couple of rounds last night. Hooked up with some fellow playing as Medic and we had a hell of a good Heavy/Medic team dynamic going. I must have gone through 10,000 rounds of ammo in the tunnel exit at Pipeline B (terminal) just hosing down the exit from enemy spawn and de-life-ifying wave after wave of engineers desperate to erect sentries.

Lately, I've been exploring the merits of playing as Pyro. He's a soft, squishy little bastard, but can be very useful in those sections of the Payload Race maps where Spies tend to congregate.

I have a deep and profound loathing for modern "retro" audio gear that costs insanely large amounts of money and performs no better than an equivalent piece of digital studio gear costing a tenth as much.

It's just masturbation.

I mean, no professional video editor in their right mind would have a Scanimate in their studio rather than an Abekas DVE (or these days, a desktop PC running Adobe AfterEffects), so why do the musicians persist in this belief that it's "cool" to own expensive, obsolete, noisy and hard-to-use equipment?

This is a Scanimate:

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1327366874

It was state-of-the-art in 1979. It does ѕhit like this:

Try sucking less.

Who are you playing as? IMO, Heavy and Solider are the easiest characters to get started with. Heavy is tough to kill, and easy to inflict damage with. Soldier isn't quite as robust, but his rocket launcher makes him effective at great distances.

Also, I suggest the basic Payload maps as a starting point. They tend to be a bit less frenetic than the Base-oriented maps, and give you a chance to explore the various player strategies a bit more easily.

Keep at it! it has a crazy steep learning curve between understanding what each character does/can do. and how to effectively use each character. Also, while using heavy and soldier is a good idea. dont be afraid to try other characters as well. Everyone kinda has a niche character in my findings. At the very least every person has characters they are better with. gotta find out who. That being said though, heavy and soldier are easiest to grasp.
