EDIT: Before I get challenged for saying the bullet travels in a straight path, I do understand ballistics. I'm treating it as a straight path since we're talking about distances of 6"-8" from the end of the muzzle.

I postulate that a gun with a very slightly curved barrel, with spherical ammunition, and a sort of "ribbing" inside of the barrel instead of "rifling" whereby the movement of the spherical bullet through the relatively lose bore of the barrel created a strong sideways rotation (much like a baseball player throws a curve ball, or a ping pong player slaps the ball with a strong left-to-right motion to put a ridiculous curve on the ping pong ball) instead of the normal rifled spin, while not being extremely accurate, could actually produce a noticeable curvature of the projectile.
