I made a point to cut that stud area out (post-tree-squish) so I could figure out why it was difficult. Turns out each subframe stud (at least in the front) runs through a cylinder in the frame rail. Each cylinder has three holes drilled in it with spot welds making the stud connection to the cylinder.
Not saying it can't be done though.
