That's what I find so damned interesting about the Beetles. In SCORE Class 11, they're basically stock except for safety equipment. Stock drum brakes, stock suspension, stock body, stock engine, stock transaxle... And yet they do amazing shit.

Also, reminded of the Wildfire facility from The Andromeda Strain.

It completely escaped my notice until now that because of its subframe design it would be relatively easy to do a "body lift" on a Miata. Additionally, it could allow for shocks with longer bodies and a longer stroke length, and also longer springs. Interesting.

Yes in theory. Stud length is the issue- about 3/16" limit IMO. Having shimmed the front subframe on my first swap, I will say that the subframe mounting studs proved impossible to remove. I ground the welds off the heads in the engine bay and tried various extreme measures of removal without success.

I made a point to cut that stud area out (post-tree-squish) so I could figure out why it was difficult. Turns out each subframe stud (at least in the front) runs through a cylinder in the frame rail. Each cylinder has three holes drilled in it with spot welds making the stud connection to the cylinder.

Not saying it can't be done though. :hahano:

btw- that BRG is for real (half the lift, no decals or roof rack)
