I found this mostly track video from NASA SE with some stills of various vette crap thrown in. Unfortunately has music. The slow motion wreck of the silver vette is totally worth it. That is a lucky SOB that it didn't end up upside down.

O snaps, that ecr... That track in crap in the braking zones and if your off sideways your fucked, it's like they designed the track to have ruts running across the track. I never run 10/10 out there as it's a track i don't want to drop a wheel at. There is only 1 turn with run off that will not brake your wallet. |

Why would he keep the brakes locked up instead of easing off and keeping the car rolling straight? Didn't see any immediate obstacles to avoid hitting. Straight is better than sideways any day of the week.
It is just like doing an e-brake lock up. But in a rear/mid engined car with all the weight of a big block behind you it would be the worst e-brake lock up you could imagine when it comes to being able to control it. The ass end would want to swap ends with the front end in a big way. Again, heel & toe downshifting or being more gentle with the clutch re-engagement or both would have helped. And pushing the clutch back in at the first indication it was breaking loose might have completely saved his ass. But you could tell from everything else he did up until that point that he was not a driver, didn't know the course, the car, or car control at all. I am always amazed when people buy powerful, fast cars with big rubber to learn in. By the time they get one out of shape they are going way too fast with way too few skills and very little time or room to save it. The scariest guys in DE1&2 are not the ones in Civics or Minis, they are the ones in Vipers, etc. Like this one: |
Oh it's clear the For GT owner induced shift-lock. It almost seems like he was doing it in other places before it got the best of him, judging by the sounds of his horrible downshifts and extremely early braking. I used to use shift-lock to initiate drifting. It's VERY hard to control because it's a VERY fast reaction...much faster than using the e-brake because of the weight transfer that happens when one does shift-lock (and it usually means they are already on the brakes taking weight off the rear tires). It's violent.

I just watched this on Netflix. Its pretty good. Its an in depth look at Senna's F1 career. It doesn't have anything about him pre F1, but it has a lot of info on the politics surrounding F1 at the time. |
And does anyone else think these two look similar?

Maybe not the best angles, but some times when one is in a certain light he reminds me of the other.
