There's a little town near where we've been going on camping trips for 30 some years. The post office is the parlor of the local postman's home.

Ehh. The post office by my college in Ewing NJ, amongst the most densely populated places in this country and adjacent to the state capitol, was also in the back of a pharmacy. Doesn't mean you're in the sticks.

Every post office I've frequented looked roughly the same.
Usually by itself, not adjoining any other structure. Modest architectural design, bordering on average and unnoticable. Not large and not small, just big enough to fit a line of average people over 60 and one person under 40. Usually closed during the hours I'd most likely use it. Here's my local post office. It is a block away. You can see it to the left of the beer garden. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410223802 |
They aren't mine but they are near me.

In the modern world of urban sprawl, there is a huge waste of tax dollars in post offices. Here, you can drive 20 miles down 1 road and pass 3 post offices.
(not these, these are just some of the wasted post offices here) https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410268841 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...t_Virginia.jpg Then of course we have the post offices that are far and above the nicest buildings in the communities that barely have a gas station. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410268841 |
If you want to find the world's biggest morons, go to the PO, not walmart*.
*I will be dropping off two packages at the PO today. |

Oh man, I miss Red Meat. They used to run it in the local free weekly fishwrap and I keep forgetting it exists.

There's also a Red Meat Construction Set, which has a whole forum and community built around it. It's not been too active in recent years, but it's still around. There's some good fan-made stuff in it.

I would pay a lot of money for a 'smart' phone that's basically a 7th gen Ipod nano, but with a phone built into it. http://cdn0.vox-cdn.com/entry_photo_...super_wide.jpg |

Admittedly, no smartphone can match the ergonomics of a flip-phone for actually making phone calls on, but I find that the vast majority of what I used my "phone" for these days is much less making phone calls and much more checking email, surfing the web, etc. Personally, I think there's still some room to grow. If I could get a device that was functionally identical to my GS4 but had a 7" screen, I'd probably prefer to have one of those as opposed to carrying two separate devices (a 5" phone and an 8" tablet) as I do now. Yes, it would seem ludicrous at first, but once the proper belt-clip was devised for it, I think it wold work quite nicely. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410374028 |
