This one is closer but still misses the mark.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1409692864 The idea would be to invest a minimum of money and time. This one was built with a cage that the A pillar bars went through the body where the base of the windshield was and not like if it had a windshield. I'll see if I can't find some more pictures. There isn't much more you can take out of the car that would give any real weight benefit. The front cross piece that holds the radiator and sections of the frame probably weight only 5-8lb total. Behind the front wheels, there isn't much you can take out without messing with the rigidity of the car. It would take a decent amount of work to get any weight loss without sacrificing on how rigid it was.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1331227676 The real attraction for me is that a project like that has a chance of being finished. I mean, I *know* that if l started something like an Exocet it would never get finished. |

Someone needs to do this minimalist treatmentto an XJR or some other R. Think of the weight savings when removing all the fancy bits (like fenders and glass and 3 steers worth of leather) and you'd still have a decently long wheelbase and 400 hp!
The newish ones (2004-2009) are made of aluminium, so bring your TIG! https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1409724437 |
