wheel bearings
I need to do the front wheel bearings...one is screaming on occasion when I turn.
Why is it so hard to find a bearing without the hub? Is there any reason why I can't swap the bearings in and out with a press?
thanks

The hum when turning is usually the first obvious sign of it (before that it might be a "whoosh" that you assume is just normal road noise). When they get worse they will hum when you're going straight and get louder when turning/veering.
Aside from that, you can jack the car up, grab the wheel and see if you can shake it around. But I'm not sure how you would know to do this before the hum starts.
Any shaking that you can feel while driving is almost always a wheel balance problem rather than the bearing or an alignment issue.
