What is the max safe power, 5speed, 99 motor.
being told 230ftlb is the max on stock rods in from the 99 and about 200ftlb on the transmission. car is stilling at 220ftlb so need to know if i need to dial it back a bit or leave it. don't want to blow up the motor or trans.... yet...
does hp have anything to do with breakage or is just the torque? that mark of math and sciences i never understood
car will see a lot of track time. and i don't care if your running 300hp on the same 5 speed from 10 years, lady luck is a bitch when i spin the wheel.

John and I already told you that more than 230wtq on a dynojet was getting into the danger zone on the 5-speed. I never popped one but did only 1 track day on the 5-speedNat 250wtq(DD). You know gary's red car pops them regularly at 240wtq (DJ) on an ACT s2 or whatever, actually has that car done more than 3-sessions on a 5-speed? Btw, all the local old men will tell you the 6 is no stronger than the 5. You'll be fine at Hallett for 2-days if you leave the torque where it is and go easy on clutch engagement, but it's time to find a 6-speed and 3.90 or 3.63.

I blew my trans @ 180ftlbs or less. It was 10 or 11psi on a 2554 on a 1.6L
I threw a rod @ 235whp iirc it was 15psi on a 2560 on a 1.8L
Then i blew 4th gear on a 6 speed. Aprox 275/275 with 2860 @ 17-18psi
Now my car sits awaiting my bank account to replenish so i can go back on track and break something else. I wouldn't push past 200whp if you want anything to last on track. Ill be heading back to the track with 11psi coming out of the turbo to keep **** safe for now on... hopefully.

I have heeded the warnings of the 5 speeds. Mine makes funny noises since i have boosted. (13 psi on a shanghai s turbo, whatever the hell that is .......2854?) I have a 3.636 waiting for a 6 speed. If i can find one sub 500 i would have it. Until then i will continue paying 100 per 5 speed until it gets ridiculous. But really. Get a 6 speed.

Wirelessly posted
And that trans sees no track time where I shift 16x per lap. I think driving with gentle clutch engagement is one of te keys.

This. I broke a 5 speed N/A driving like a dip-turd. Minimizing shock on the gears of the trans is key to keeping a 5 speed alive. The sudden onset of torque, be it quick shifting or whatever, especially with grippy tires will destroy a 5 speed in short order. I have been babying mine until i can buy a 6 speed. Also, i think a larger turbo also helps save a trans in a minimalist way by having more gradual building of power instead of a spike of torque.
