Default Transmission Lockout & Issues

So here's another transmission problem. My 1995 potato has a 6 speed transmission, often times when going from a stopped position all the gears lockout until a second try of trying to get into gear including 1st gear. The second issue is when downshifting into 3rd its often difficult to throw the shift in, even when upshifting its the same issue. The shifter does have a lot of play to be honest. When driving today I noticed that the shifter manages to move forward & back a pretty good amount & the shifter when I moved it into 3rd it popped in without the clutch. Pulled right before there would be any grinding. Tried in many more times after & on occasion it would start to go in. Attempted to explain the best I could haha. Thanks guys.

Check the plastic bushing which centers the shift lever ball in the shift turret.

If you've just serviced the transmission, know that there are two different sized shift levers/bushings for the 6-speed and you may have used the wrong combo. I don't know the details on why/when/if/how/etc. there are two different bushing combinations.

If you will be ordering the plastic bushing, make sure to grab the number off the transmission VIN plate to reference the actual year/model/production number to get the correct bushing.

Well the PO had put in an automatic shifter bushing at the end of the shifter. I found out when the shifting was becoming an issue. I swapped it out for the 5 speed/6speed shifter bushing not the newer one. I'll see if I can pick up a new shifter bushing to see if it makes a huge difference. I've looked for a VIN number on the transmission & there's nothing. Even the PO said there wasn't one on it.

Well the clutch/flywheel are practically new, a FM Happy Meal combo. I might swap out the slave for a new one see if it fixes anything. I don't doubt the transmission is really jacked up lol. If it gets to the point the transmission is really jacked then I'll probably take legal action against the PO. Still have his original sale threads around, tired of all the issues I have ran into with my car. So much I have had to fix that he did.
