Default Shock tower.

Hello All,

I pulled my motor out, going to take this opportunity to repaint my engine bay. My question is has anyone seen or modified their shock tower? I want to remove the annoying pieces of sheet metal and weld on some other support. I tried searching for some examples on line but it's a dead end. Maybe it's not a good idea since the metal is so thin or a sandwich plate made from angle iron from the outside and inside?

Yeah, Mazda didn't leave those there on accident. They matter.

I know that, not so much the driver side but if I could modify and remove the passenger side it would create the space I need for the radiator reroute hose.

Hmmm. My Escalade hose didn't run that far from the intake.

I have the skunk 2 intake which takes up a lot of lateral space, on top of that I have the super miata cross flow rad the angle the rad hose comes in to the rad input spout hits the skunk 2 throttle body. The throttle lever rubs on the rad hose. Modifying that shock tower support sheet metal would give me a lot of clearance. Skunk 2 throttle body has its own inherent issues. It's not something I'm contemplating doing for nothing. I just don't have the space I need in one particular area. If it's been done I'd like to see the end results before I attempt it.

that is very nice craftsmanship but I'd like to remove the triangle shaped metal completely more so on passenger side. The tube set up you have won't work for my application. I'll just leave it alone and work with what I have.

What do the top supports connect to?

They go directly to the roll cage. There are a lot more pictures in my build thread.

What rad hose from the reroute are you using?

Get one of the reroute hard pipes, it pushes everything down nicely and then get the Dayco 71519 and cut one of the 90's off to connect to the radiator...

If the junk2 parts interfere with that setup thats an issue... junk them and swap to a flat top and regular throttle body and move on with life.
