Proposed setup(need some opinions)
'92 NA needing a better wheel and tire package than stock.
Car is lowered a tad under 2" front and back
Want to up to 15" rims and wider tires
Need to get an all season tire
What do you guys/girls think of these two combos? Anyone running anything similiar on a 2" lowered NA?
----Black 5 spoke Nippon----
-15x6.5
- offset +40mm
Tire: Kumho Ecsta 225/50HR15
----Black Sportmax 501----
-15x8
- offset +15mm
Tires: Kumho Ecsta 225/50HR15
I think the 15x8's would look bad A but will they fit with the offset and tires metnioned?
How about the 15x6.5's....will the sidewall be bubbled out on these? And will they look too skinny for the car?

Is this about your car or your bias against the reader's ride Miata? Keep the threads separate and on topic please.
Anyway;
The 15x8s will fit, not sure with that much rubber if they still will especially up front.
The 15x6.5s are way narrow and will look silly IMO with a 225 crammed onto them. Plus, a friend of mine ran 225s on a stock Miata wheel for an autocross and said the steering felt like jello.

I'm on 15x7.... with 205/50/15 Falken 615 Azenis.... 195 is too narrow IMHO.
I'm not sure that 15x8 would fit for regular street use on an M1 though.... I know guys who run them for autox on M2's -- but they seem to be able to fit bigger wheels.
If you are going with 15x6.5 or 7, stick with 205's.... closer to stock size wise, and they still fill out the wheel wells with a 38mm offset.

cool. thanks koto......what size rubber front and back do you suggest for the 8" rims i'm speaking of.
I've been crunching some numbers and with +40mm offset on an 8" rim that will leave me with a rim lip of about 3" on the outside of the car. The backspace is well within reason. Does anyone know if I will have to roll the fender to fit a wheel with that size lip on.
p.s. just wanted to make sure i wasn't working with a tire combo that stretched as much as that dude's did. It just looked to me like his rim lip would be getting ground up all the time. Thats not nice to do to such damn nice looking wheels like he had on that thing.

15x8 +40 would be tucked into the wheelwell about 30mm... not sticking out.
15x8 +0 sticks out a little tiny bit.
15x8 +0 is done on NA Miatas pretty frequently, usually with a slightly stretched tire. I think most NA guys are running 195s on them.
If I were going with a 15x8 I'd go with a +10 or +15 just to ensure they're sitting flush, and I'd probably avoid sportmaxes, since they are becoming like slipstreams were when I had a Honda.

Hey koto,
lol, i love the look of the sportmaxes even if they're becoming really common..... I have two question for you....
1.) What size tire would you recomend on the sportmaxes with an approx. 2" lower than stock ride and not rolling the fenders. I'm thinking of getting the kumho ecstas cause I need an all season tire. What size do ya recommend tire wise.
2.) Are you sure that +15mm offset 8 inchers would be sitting about 30mm inside the fender? I didnt do any measuring yet, but that sounds pretty sweet.
