NC swap alternatives
#4
Welcome to the dark side! All three of those swaps are pretty up there in the cost range, although the built 2.5 swap less so.
I've thought about this so many times for my car. For the cost of the K24 swap, I could 2.5 swap my car, throw in a turbo kit, and buy at least six or seven spare 2.5s, a month's worth of gas, and some tacos with the money left over. That's actually what I plan to do.
In all seriousness, Gee's right. What's the car going to be used for and how hard on your equipment are you?
If I were going N/A on my build, it'd be a 2.4L Scalpel motor for sure. Partially because I'd never put up five figures for a swap. HP per dollar ratio for the built Duratec is much stronger than the Kswap. It's also a less involved swap in general, and I'm lazy where I can get away with it. Many more guys running K motors for racing than 2.5s or 2.4 destroked Duratecs, so it's harder to attest to the Duratec's longevity when wrung out on track.
Have you checked in with the 2.5 swap NC facebook groups? Lots of folks with firsthand knowledge and experience on there as well. Interested to hear what others have to say.
