Default NB 6 speed to 5 speed swap question?

Forgive my laziness to research, i just need a quick answer.

I have a 10AE 6 speed car, tomorrow i am buying a 5 speed transmission on craigslist for cheap, and will likely be selling the 6 speed.

besides the shifter stick from the 5 speed, what else do i need to fit the 5 speed tranny into the 6 speed car?
i've read that if going 5 to 6 speed, then the starter of the 5 speed car can only be held by 2 bolts. but what about the 6 speed starter? can it work on a 5 speed transmission?
any extra mounts that i might need?

much appreciated.

Just need the 5 speed shifter .

If you want to use all the bolts off the starter motor you should also use the 5 speed gearbox back engine plate (donīt know the correct name).

Thanks, I'll give this a go in 2 weeks. I know which flat mating plate you are talking about. I have an extra 5spd one.

6 speed is out of a 113k mile 1999 10AE miata. Non crashed running car I personally test drove it.
I bought it for cheap to flip, so maximizing ROI and removing the 3.9 torsen and the 6 spd.

prices inline with market for low mile parts.

6spd $800
3.9 torsen with axles $900, without axles $800.

these are no mystery parts, I will post a video later of the car, odometer and me driving it.

Just make sure you sell the car to someone who doesn't care about those options.

Some buyers might notice the difference and walk away because of that.

I'm sure an enthusiast like us here won't want to buy a 5 spd open diff car. But in reality, most miata buyers just want a car that looks good and drives good. They don't even think about if the car has torsen or not or how many gears it has.

I'm sure an enthusiast will walk away, but this buyer group is a minority.

not cheating anyone, it will be basically a regular miata.

What hes saying is that you shouldnt advertize it as a 99Ae at that point. An enthusiast will know the difference but someone that knows that the 99AE is good, will not.

The 99+00 six speeds also have more in common with five speeds than the nb2 six speeds do. i cant remember if the shifters are compatible though....i dont think they are, just the rebuild kit, right?

makes sense. I'll just list it as a 99 miata, which is what it will be after I swap the parts. Not mention AE.

my 5 speed came with a shifter, so all good.

10AE's are starting to rise in cost for good ones, so you might want to look at the cost of a 99 vs a 10AE before putting in the work. Might be worth putting the effort into something else that'll raise the value of the car on the "collector" market.

good point, but I'm not sure I can get 4.5k for it being a 10AE. Vs 3.5k as a regular miata.

car is in decent shape, body is straight but has peeling clear coat in some spots, common to florida miatas and seats are ruined, so I'll have to source regular nb seats for it.

my target is to get $3.5k in regular miata trim and I'll get another 1k net in 6spd and torsen sale. So I'll have to get $4.5k in 10AE trim, which I think will be tough for a 99 miata in not so mint condition.

Yeah, you should be able to get 3-3.5k for that car depending on miles and condition with the open diff and 5 speed. Someone will like the color and you can always swap in the differential later.
