LP3 Racing 90 Trackcar
Ok! So i thought, now that i finally got around to writing up an intro, and we have finally decided to go turbo with our Miata, that i would track our progress here! I will do my best to post pics of our progress.
Back story!
Ive been racing Auto cross and a few track days here and there for a while now,,, My car - 1990 Miata 1.6 - has been a blast! I have had very very little money to invest in anything on the car, but i had a really solid base to start with. My focus has been on lightening the car as much as possible instead of spending money adding parts... So far this has been very successful, and a lot of fun! I love being really creative within the rules.
Well... Now i picked up a major sponsor, LP3 Technologies Inc. They are starting a racing division to help promote their company and have selected me to drive for them! Very Exciting. But even better, they are funding the build for my car! WOOHOO!! and supplying me with a Miata to race in stock class while we build the race car. I also have a partial sponsor with SD Fabrication for all my fab work! So i finally get to build the car with a little bit (lot a bit) of financial assistance. ON WITH THE CAR!
1990 - bought about 4 years ago in amazing condition. PO was a pilot and had perfect records for everything ever done on the car. Then i crashed it turning right into a parked car After that, i did a rattle can paint job, gutted everything out of the car that wasn't absolutely needed, redid the wire harness to remove all the extra crap and started racing it even more. The car really has treated me very well and has never given me any real issues, time to show it some love in return!
Plan for the car!
We just picked up a 1.8 long block built by Race Engineering
We will be using the V8 Sub frame and tubular control arms, with new hubs.
So far the plan is to go with the FMII And use Mega Squirt to control it. This should be a good start and give us something solid to build onto.
We chose the FM V-Maxx XXtreme Stage 2 Track Pack suspension kit also as a starting point. Brakes will be handled with the FM four-wheel Little Big Brake Kit as a start as well.
We have some other fun stuff in the works, but i think that hits on the basics.
The Stock car to be used while my car is being built is also a 1990, this one is a BRG with hard top. Very cool little car. We will probably use the 1.6 that we are taking out of my car, it feels stronger and has better maintenance.
I plan on doing as much of the work myself as possible, and just learning as much as i can on the way. Thanks for looking and i will post pics as we progress.

I would like to end up in a prepared class, but it will be a process. I know their are very different build paths between the two, i am just hoping of hitting SSM on the way to prepared.. If that makes sense. Just something about the prepared cars makes me want to end up in one very badly. There is a sprite running in a prepared class out here that I would love to compete with. But I am patient, and I know this will be a process.,,, And i think that with this build plan and a TON of practice, I may be able to do just that.

Still trying ti finish up the stock BRG and start racing! Got the tires in (888's) and mounted this week on a set of stock daisies that i picked up in great condition for a steel. There was a huge dent in the rear quarter panel of the BRG as well, i spent a few hours getting that fixed... I did not enjoy that process... but it came out very well.
Had a set back with the graphics guy today and it looks like we will be missing our first race this weekend. Next goal will be a race at the end of July.
This will give us some more time to swap the struts from my spare car as they are legal in stock class and much better than the 140K shocks currently on the BRG. And give us a chance to get it aligned and ready.
As far as the actual track car goes, I have disassembled the front end and have started removing the old paint to get it ready for new paint! This car will have a clean base coat under the vinyl wraps. I also have everything removed from the interior minus the dash to get the car over to SD fabrication so they can start the 3/4 cage.
That is about it as far as updates.

No idea really,,, i am not at the shop, they just sent me the pic, they don't seem all that concerned though, they just sent it to let me know and to be careful. Ill find out more later,,, they suck at emailing back and forth,,, guess that means they are working... or at least that what i choose to believe.

At this point it is an issue of cost,, The vmax set comes with more than just the coils and seemed to be a great place to start... It is hard for me to justify over twice as much for just the coils. however... I have never experienced the magic that are the Xidas. and i am not apposed to them.. AS for now though i think the vmaxes will be a stepping stone. When the third car is finished we can upgrade the 2nd car and use the vmax on the 3rc car. I think ill have a better chance getting them with that plan. If i can pick up another sup sponsor that wants to help with the suspension, i would be more than willing to step up... So i will try that as an option as well.
