Yea but look at how much it is to get another key on a car with transponders. Its just expensive from a dealership. It takes the parts dept less than 5 minutes to cut the key, and it takes me less than 5 minutes to program the transponder and the key fob, but we still charge over $100 along with everyone else. If yours only charges you $7 for your miata key thats great but most don't do it that cheap.

I can get a gallon of milk at Kroger for $4.29. So that $100 includes the cost of a transponder and a fob? Wow, how incredibly relevant to what it costs to cut a key for a 90 miata which doesn't have either of those things and doesn't require programming. Your transponder OTM key will do about as much to start this guy's car as a gallon of milk.
There ya go.
There ya go.
After posting I knew I should have edited it to make more sense to you. I'll break it down more next time....
