Looking for rec's on gauges
#21
How about a coolant pressure gauge? Not sure if they make one, but since your getting carried away with gauges, why not? I'm sure a regular mechanical boost gauge would read fine, but it wouldn't say coolant pressure on it. I wouldn't waste the space for a volt meter or ammeter. Why the hell would you need that? Your car has an idiot light for the alternator, and really you could build a simple circuit to control the factory idiot light if you wanted to "adjust" when it illuminates. I think an air temperature gauge before the TB would be much more useful then a volt gauge.

Ben,
Take a look at http://www.veisystems.com/home.html for a few reasons. The led gauges are easy to see. Gauges themselves with aluminum bezels are very nice, but not too bling. EGT gauge goes to 1800 which is better than 1600, but still not to 2000 you want.
BUT, most importantly, they have a line of DUAL display gauges to save you a lot of real estate. FWIW, I got a water temp gauge to test build quality/etc... and I love it.

2000F Defi on closeout. It uses a skinny thermocouple, so it's very quick to react.

May be a dumb question, but where can I find information on modifying the stock gauge cluster to add a gauge? Or is it just cut the hole out and put a gauge there? lol Just don't want to mess up the circuitry.
My '95 has the idiot oil pressure gauge, and since I already have an Autometer one, I don't need it, but have wanted to put something there that would be of more use to me.

Agreed. The Miata cluster is nice and simple, and there's (relatively) plenty of room to put an aftermarket gauge in place of the stock one. You're going to need a Dremel, some hot melt glue, soldering iron, etc.
If you can, remove the bezel and glass from the aftermarket gauge, it'll give you more room, and make it look more integrated.

Ben, IMO you can't go wrong with the Z series gauges. They aren't the fanciest gauges out, but they are really easy to read and don't stick out like a sore thumb. I bought a green 194 bulb from AutoZone and it matched the rest of the dash perfectly at night.
This is the only picture I have of mine that I can find, don't mind "Turbo" my friends cat.

BTW my friend has a Sport Comp II gauge, and those look really nice too. I actually think that they are easier to read than the Z series. Maybe they make those with the EGT range you are looking for.
