Default Looking for 2 NA8 owners to take pictures and measurements for LS coils harness

Howdy folks. As some of you know Barton and I are working on plug and play LS coil harnesses that will make using cheap LS coils + SADfab bracket awesomeness really easy. We've got the 1.6, NB1, and NB2 models covered, but between the two of us and across our two hemispheres, we have exactly 0 NA 1.8s. We need someone with the 94-95, and someone with the 96-97. It will involve tracing the wires from the coil pack back to the connector where it joins onto the harness, measuring the distance from that plug to the front and back of the engine, and snapping a couple close up pics of the connector with the wire colors.

Is anyone rooting around in their engine bay anyway and want to help us out?

Thanks!!

I'm not really messing with the engine, but if you send me some detailed info with samples from NA 1.6 or NB of what you need I may be able to help you out (if it's somewhere in the open space and not inside the dash or wrapped in some really hard to reach spot). Shoot me a PM with details and I'll take a look.

Excuse the crude paint drawing but this is the measurement we're after.

The 4-way connector should look like this (could be wrong).

Wire colours should be black, blue, brown and brown/yellow and we'll need to know which colour is in which connector cavity.

you are basically looking for the length of the injector harness from coil pack to 8 pin connector. They are very close on an NA8 97

On 1994 it's 21-22" . I've used a sticky tape to trace out the length from 4 way to one of the coil plug connectors, then once traced - pulled it off and measured the length of that piece. You may want to allow for an extra inch or more of slack though working with those coil connectors and not having this extra length when taking them off is a pain.

Strange though to see that it's only 1' on 96-97. I will go double-check it later when i get some time.

That's so much guys. The other thing we need is a close up of the 4-pin connector where you can see the wire colors, so we know which wire goes to which pin.

Ok, so looks like I measured distance to the wrong connector in the post above. I couldn't find a strictly 4 pin connector. I have an 8 wire connector and a 6 wire connector that is 13.5" away from coil connectors that has only 5 wires in it. They appear to match color on coil wires. Looks like female side is going to the coils and if you take the release lever to denote the top of the plug

5 brown with yellow stripe

Thanks heaps. Is yours a 94-95 car? I think the 94-95 will have a 6 pin connector with 5 wires since it also has a rpm signal back to the ecu while the 96-97 has a 4 pin and no rpm signal.

Final product will be a LS coil harness similar to the ones I've already made but manufactured in larger quantities and PnP for all years 89-05. Will suit the Sadfab mounting brackets and others like my Beavis Motorsport bracket.

Yes, it is a 94 and appears to have 6 pin connector with 5 wires.

I love this forum. Thanks so much for the help!

As Barton said, it's gonna be easy button LS coils for everyone!

What would the benefit be having these coils as opposed to my OEM coils for non FI.

They are not strictly necessary for NA. The problem under boost is you get spark blowout at somewhere north of 12 psi so you need to gap down your plugs. With LS coils on NA you can run like .040 gaps which gives you excellent combustion. I noticed the difference at idle instantly.

I generally run .44 gap on my NA 1.8.

Only real benefit I can see for non FI use is cheaper replacement coils.
