Uh oh.. my tranny has a nice loud whine in it. Its a race between the 1.6 diff and the tranny now that ive upped the boost. Which will go first?

My 5 speed sounded like it had straight-cut gears for over 20k miles before it blew up.
Which will go first?
My bet is on the diff.

I'd place a wager on that. Crnrhrd broke a 1.6 diff in a weekend without even abusing it.

Sounds exactly like my 5-speed. Blew it up at 200whp, fast 2-3 shift and the gearbox sounded like a bomb went off inside it.
I HATE every single 2 to 3 up-shift on track so I usually try to keep it in 3rd by going faster

With the upcoming weekend and prospect for great weather this evening decided to finally drop the transmission and put in Andy's spare.

Pulling the plug and dumping the horrid looking black redline this little guy fell out:

Thats an entire tooth! The transmission rattles when you shake it too. Can't wait to pop it open.

Started this little project at about 17:30 this evening and completed 21:30 for dinner with the new trans installed 99%. Still need fluid fill in the trans along with turret, then install shifter and put the one screw back in my center console.

Somehow most of the underside of my car is coated in a nice sheet of oil, grease, and sand. Yay for Kansas!

I've worked 53 hours this week, slept about an average of 5 hours per night and its turned me into a complete physical wreck. I'm way past exhausted.

Really seemed worse looking in the mirror of my bathroom and I should've taken a picture of my arms as they were completely black. Took a 45 minute shower and still don't have all the grease and grime removed and I use a really good degreaser soap. Oh and thank god for safety glasses.

Haha, nice. I feel your pain. A was completely covered in grease after the clutch job i did on my car. Damn was it dirty, i guess 170k worth of road grime really kills it.

Me during said clutch job. Dont have any after shots but it was worse.

There's a reason I hung on to all my work shirts from when I worked in the machine shop.

This is at the beginning of day two of motor swap, when we were still clean. Shirts were so bad when we were done my wife wouldn't let them anywhere near the washing machine. Good thing I've got more of them...makes like easy sometimes.

Oh yeah, using GoJo on your face is FAIL.

i HATE clutch jobs under the car on jackstands.

HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HAET. HAIGHT.

If I am doing a clutch, plus ANYTHING else, I'll just pull the motor instead. It's another hour or so of work, but it is so much more pleasant.

I replace mine about 3 weeks ago, GOSpeed was nice enough to trade me a transmission for some 1.6 stuff I had. Thanks again!
Here's what mine looked like.

I heard a very faint ticking noise under acceleration, for a couple days. Then halfway through the gear it blew up. Mine had shucked two teeth, but I think it shucked one tooth a few weeks before.
