Ihasmiata? build
I started my build a few months ago, and its been moving kinda slow for the time being. But I appreciate any feed back I can get, is there anything that I'm over looking. Suggestions on what I can do while I'm waiting for parts, or parts that I might want to look at in the near future.
Thanks
Thanks
I hope this one goes over better.
I own a 1990 classic red NA, with 180k+ miles. Was completely stock before it came to my possession.
Plans for the car: Mainly autocross, with some drifting, while remaining its daily drive-ability.
Parts
- Tokico struts, swift springs (s/r unknown): installed
- 4.10 Torsen Swap (Axles, Diff, Drive Shaft): being installed..... stilllllll
- Hard Dog Rollbar
- Butterfly Brace
- Mega Squirt PNP ECU
- Racing seat/Harness
-1.8l Swap w/turbo (eventually)
- BSP Low Profile Headlights (brainstorm Performance): installed
Here's a few pictures that I managed to resize from my first thread, the other ones didn't come out so well.
And well not knowing exactly what I was doing. It was one of those, your at point A, you want to get to point B. So you just kinda do w.e until your there. So me and my buddy Jon just kinda winged most of it.
As the car sits now.
Got the diff, torque arm, half shafts, drive shaft all off, wanted to have to whole transmission out too.. So that everything would be ready for the clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel. (Thanks Scott and Burny for the parts) But was kinda timid about that, but then the rain also decided I had taken enough parts off for one day.
The torsen swap thats going in
1.8L clutch and pressure place
1.8L flywheel
One of the old half shafts kinda exploded as I was pulling it off the diff, so I'm going to go ahead and assume that it's a good thing I'm doing the diff swap now.
Pics soon!!
Theres a close up of the pressure plate, it has slight surface rust that happened while it was in the trunk of the protogay. Should break cleaner and a light sanding with a super fine grit sand paper be safe?
Decided to try my thumb at creative photography with a shitty camera
And some pictures of the BSP lights!!

So yesterday i got out with some help from my friend Jon and did some work on the miata.. Spent most of the day doing running around in order to get ahold of the **** I needed to do the majority of everything (PICS SOON)
We swapped the PPF from my old diff, to the Torsen. Changed the diff fluid with Valvoline 80w90 GL-5 (couldn't find GL-4 like Scott suggested. And it was the cheaper stuff) I would have gotten 75w90 GL-4 Royal Purple. But that ***** 20 bucks a quart, and Burny suggested getting 5 to play it safe. So I picked up that, some all prupose packing grease. And other little ****.
The night before I also picked up the diff bushings I needed from Scott, along with the thermostat by-pass hose, and some FM Sway bars (front and rear)
We got the diff installed, along with the driveshaft. Everything is bolted up and lined back up perfectly with a little persuation.
Tonight when I get home, just gotta put the new axles in, swap out the by-pass hose. And do the charcoal canister delete/radiator overflow relocation. And I should be set to drive the car around.
Here's a updated list of parts I have/installed/waiting on/etc
Parts:
- Hardtop (Next month)
- Hard Dog Rollbar
- FM Butterfly Brace w/ FM Frame Rails
- Racing Seat w/ Harness
- FM Extented Racing Clutchline
- 1.8L Engine Swap
- CT20 Ceramic Turbo (Sitting in my shed/ needs rebuild)
- JE Low Compression Piston
- Eagle Rods
- Mega Squirt PNP ECU
- Wideband, Boost Guage, Oil/Water Temp
- Tockico struts/ Swift Springs (INSTALLED)
- Torsen Swap (INSTALLED mostly)
I can't really think of any parts that I have/getting at the moment.
But pics will be up tonight!!

Got home from work, not really feeling like working on the car today. But after some COD and a quik nap, decided I'd finish up the torsen swap. So I finished putting the axles in. So now I just have to torque the axle nuts down, reinstall the exhaust manifold, change clutch slaves, and thermostat by-pass hose. And it should be ready for a test drive..
I also went ahead and did the little charcoal canister delete project, I found on CR.net. After I'm done installing all that parts I have coming from Scott. I'm going to attempt to do a small wire tuck, based on another write up I found on CR.net.
So hopefully after work tomorrow, I'll finish up the stuff I need to do, so I can take it for a test drive. Along with getting the front FM sway put in.

Well I finally picked up my own jack, got tired of borrowing on from friends and stuff, along with not having one when I need one. Plus got a coupon out of my Modified Mag and reduced the price to 59.99 so I saved 40 bucks on that.
Now time for parts that are actually for the miata
Bought a CORBEAU seat and harness of my friend Scott, for a decent price. I got everything but the crotch strap for the harness. But I didn't think it'd be that big of a problem as long as I got the shoulder/waist straps.
And to help keep it cool, a mishimoto (37mm?) radiator.
P.S: The radiator in the miata has to be the easiest radiator I've taken out of a car. 2 bolts that bolted the rad. down. And 2 nuts, holding the A/C lines to the bottom of the rad. And it slide right out.
Next parts to be purchased:
- Tien flex's
- Coolant Reroute
- 15x7.5-8 Diamond Racing Wheels
- S3 Begi Turbo Kit

So thats where its at for now, I'm hoping to make some more progress her within the next few days after work.
