Default How bad I ruined my motor

So I tore my motor apart and this is what I wss greeted with. Backstory is I ran low on oil by a little more than 2q which is super bad as evident in the color changed crank, cylinder 1 and 4 rod bearings...so what do you think?

Obviously new bearings will go in it, but new crank? Polish this one? Something else?

Did you lose oil pressure? Did you run it hard during that time?

Looks like a standard refresh to me. Get the crank inspected, a regrind might be needed and then you've got to change your bearing size.

If you are 100% sure you never dropped oil pressure, then you shouldn't have even taken it apart. How many miles do you have on this build?

Like 6k. I built the motor and essentially didnt drive the car for 5 years.

In september I found oil in the coolant, but no coolant in the oil. That was the other driver for the teardown. There wasnt any degraded performance or anything, threw a new headgasket on and made it through the rest of the year. The oil test from treadsttreadhowed coolant in the oil so that with running it low on oil I decided to tear it down before throwing a bunch of boost into it again.

The crank discoloration is normal, it's heat treating marks or something similar. I've seen it in a few dozen OEM cranks. Some of those bearings look OK, some look pretty wrecked. The rod bearing in the 9th photo down looks like it ingested something and passed it all the way through the lower shell. Because the crank is nitrided, and because it wasn't making any noise, you might have gotten lucky. Have the crank polished and see what your machine shop says about it.

Awesome, thanks man! I will be dropping everything off tuesday at the machinist. I'll let him know all of this good data and see what they say. I 100% thought that discoloration was because of overheating, its good to know its not!
