WTB 87-93 5.0 5-Spd or Miata or anything else cheep For 24 hours of Lemons!
What is it?
Each LeMons race is for cars purchased, fixed up, and track-prepped for a total of 500 dollars or less. But before reaching the grid, you'll have to survive trials like the Personal-Injury-Lawyer Anti-Slalom, the Marxist-Valet Parking Challenge, and the Wide Open Throttle Rodthrowapalooza. Twelve hours into the race, the car voted People’s Choice is called in and awarded a cash prize; simultaneously, the car voted People’s Curse is called in and summarily destroyed. At the end of 24 hours, a gala awards ceremony plies the survivors with trophies, plaques, and four-figure purses in canvas bags full of nickels. What's not to like?

I'd consider selling my 90 for a LeMons friendly price. It already has a cage made for use with a hardtop (hardtop not included). The motor and interior are out of the car but pretty much intact, and the passenger fender and front bumper cover are currently removed as well (I have a better fender than the one in the pics that you can have with it). Pics are here: https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t18703/ Stock motor turned over but wouldn't stay running when I got it (it had been sitting for over a year, now over 3 since it has been driven). Includes a set of steelies and a set of daisies, and I have 3 spare doors (a red L & R, and a black R) that can be resold to recoup costs. I about 10 mins from downtown Louisville, KY, which may be outside your range.

I hear ya. But looks like all the winners are in small cars. Maybe its the gas mileage or the reliability, I don't know. There has also been a guy that ran a CRX in 3 races....same car! I'm going with the theory that we can be nimble enough to miss as much confrontation as we can.

That is the theory that i am going with as well. Good luck on your build and don't let the judges know that you have prior knowledge of miatas. A couple buddies of mine told me you couldn't find a miata that would work for the lemons race for less than 500, but i got mine for 250. Given it has a wiring harness that is pretty much useless and may take me until the race to actually rewire it. Document everything well and take plenty of pictures.
