Giving credit where credit is due
MX-5 Miata Forum - 2.3L MZR N/A NC Miata
Cliff notes:
Guy blew the motor on his NC. Dealer wanted $7500 installed for a new 2.0. He swapped in a 2.3MZR from an 07 Mazda 6. Retained 2.0 head, all factory wiring was plug and play, used 2.0 pan with balance shaft delete for clearance. Had to bend one bracket to make it all fit. Running on stock 2.0 ECU. Sounds like it was a pretty simple swap, but one that hadn't been done yet. He wants to go FI next. Should be a beast if he does.

I've been on a fun run on skyline drive (virginia) with this guy. It was right after he got the car new. I can't say I am too surprised the motor is going out, he bought it as a replacement for a 240 that had been a dud, and he was already using the NC for doriffto action. We two actually got pulled on skyline for going a little too fast.
He's a good dude though, I really hope this works out for him.
Whilst I am thinking about it - the new ms3 is NOT going to have the 2.3l disi, it's going to be the T5 turbo from the volvo/ford cars. I'm not sure why they are making the change, other than it is probably a cheaper motor (does it use DI too?). I gotta wonder if it would fit any easier in the bay.

Next time you're going for a skyline drive run, PM me. I'm in Charlottesville and would be up for a miata run through the mountains.
