Fix or Replace? (I got into an accident)
#22
I would buy a new or good condition used quarter and replace it, then prep for paint myself, and then have a buddy prime and maybe paint. If you don't have a buddy that does body work (you should get one) then I'd have the "reputable shop" and the "questionable shop" both quote just the primer and paint. If you're serious about a repaint now is the time, but don't expect anything resembling a quality job for $1500.
Often the dudes that work at any body shop will do side work, FYI.
Is miata2fast still painting cars in a shipping container ? Drive the girlfriend to Florida for a vacation?
The bottom line is that body work is abhorrently expensive unless you know someone.

Eh. This is Arizona. Illegal immigrants keep "unskilled labor" down, which blows my ******* mind, because body work is NOT unskilled labor. Most body shops are $40-$50 an hour for labor. But hey, we pay parts-hanger... err, I mean "technicians" hang parts for $90/hour. I had to explain to a tech and service writer at a dealership what camber/caster bolts did.
I picked up that quarter, and the guy cut it off of the car with an angle grinder. I can probably use the skin, but none of the under bits. I hope it's not a total loss, I could have stayed home today. I got a NA6 dash, so at least I've got that going for me.
One of my coworker's husbands is apparently an amazing body and paint guy. He's working me up a quote with me providing the parts. He does it as a hobby though, so I'll need to figure out what to do with my car gone for a couple weeks.
Edit: Oh, and I saw the rim/wheel terminology coming from miles away. We had an auto shop teacher in high school that would flip out if you used the wrong terms. Bolts, screws, nuts, ratchet (or socket wrench), socket, wheel, engine (don't ******* call it a motor, motors are electric)...

Sorry for the derailment Tyler, but you know we have to keep the kids in line and the CR terminology out of here lol.
I say- buy an aftermarket QP yourself, make a mold and pop one out in fiberglass then graft it on. lol jk. There's no way around the fact that such damage is a PITA to fix. I wouldn't expect to pay less than $2,000 to have it fixed and properly painted.
