Fitting VVT engine into NA8C chassis - on Sunday this week!
So... I have been sending a PM or two around, but thought this might be a useful addition here and I would also be very appreciative of any advice or suggestions! The car is running an ME221 ECU and a GT2871R for reference.
Sunday is the big day where the new engine goes in!
So far as I can tell physically dropping the engine in place should be pain free.
I just wanted to make sure I have understood what I am getting into correctly, in order to get it working.
The fuel system... I have a fuel pressure regulator sorted, so for ease of fitting am going to use the VVT fuel rail. I then plan to use the original loom from the chassis to plug in the injectors - this should be nice and simple, unless I am missing something?
The inlet manifold, TB, TPS and all that fun stuff came with with new engine, so I am going to use all of those, unless there's a reason why I cant? I think they should all be better and newer than the Mk1 versions?
The starter... I have tried a few Mk2 and Mk2.5 cars and really hate the slow starting... as I still have the 5-speed box I am going to try and stick with the mk1 starter so it starts more positively.
The CAS/CPS I need to wire into the loom for the chassis original CAS so I can use the VVT. This I have yet to find an exact wiring diagram and/or series of pictures for. I have found 5 or 6 threads where people talk about it, or do it on other models such as a NA6 or NB, but no NA8 - hopefully when I look at it it'll make more sense - but any wisdom you have on the order of the wires in the various plugs stored away in your favourites would be very gratefully received.
These are what I have found:

mx5cartalk.com ? View topic - Crankshaft REF connector color code
VVT Engine Swap Ignition - Mostly MIATA

Any more resources you know of would be very much appreciated if you could share them please?
That brings me onto the ignition side of things. It appears the NA8 coilpack may not fit on the back of the VVT head - so I would like to use the VVT ignition loom. I cannot find something that is easy for me to understand over and above the previously posted links - do you have any experience with this?
I think once these issues are cracked, the ECU is informed about the new injector sizes etc and given a suitable base map, it should be running by the end of Sunday all being well - time will tell though!
Thanks again for reading and any help you can offer - I wanted to put all of this in one place rather than keep posting up little threads with half questions as they occurred. I think I should probably once done and it's working compile everything into a guide to make this easier for others moving forwards.
Obviously it'll be more useful if/when I find answers to these questions, if people would like to supply them please do, if/when I find them I'll put them up if they're not here already
Cheers guys!
