Daily driving an NB with depowered steering
#23
I get more tired from masturbating than i do from turning the steering wheel on my daily driver. And masturbating is only about 30 seconds of light resistance high intensity work.

I think it's more like: Anyone who bitches about steering effort under any circumstances on a tiny-*** light car that can't even fit more than 225 width tires on the street is a huge vagina.

Sorry yours wasn't done correctly. I DD'd a depowered rack for 30k+ miles on everything from 185/60/14 to 225/45/15. Zero "rip the wheel out of your hand" feeling. I've driven manual rack cars and they felt identical, except for having to turn the wheel a lot more.

I was worried about depowering mine to fit some low-mount efr goodness.
Then I DD-ed a depowered 94 for a month. If you try to drive it like it has power steering, you're gonna have a bad time. If you make sure to take nice wide turns and don't have to squeeze into tiny parallel parking spots, its no problem.

Never driven a de-powered rack, but I've driven a few manual rack cars. I really don't get the arguments about "better road feel" -- the only difference I've really noticed is that 3 minutes of autoxing a manual rack car with 275 Hoosiers leaves my forearms aching.
They way I see it, if the car's got carpet and a stereo, leave the power steering alone.

I was just forced to depower as my PS pump decided to puke its guts out. I disliked it for about a day. Then I loved it. Parking is more of a PITA and I haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure parallel parking will be a bitch. That said, just driving around is more fun so its worth it.
On a side note, I have 225/45/15's, looped (haven't had time to do depower it properly), and a MOMO Monte Carlo wheel. The first corner I went through with any vigor was a weird one where I plowed and then the rear came around. It felt really weird and freaked me out for a while. I thought that my setup would make it take longer for me to countersteer and therefore dangerous. However, now that I've driven it more, that's not the case. It just takes some mental recalibration.

I daily an R package. 3.5* of caster, feels like power steering. A properly de-powered rack with reasonable caster would be easy to deal with. The amount of mis-information about how hard it is to drive, is borderline ridiculous. If you're dead-stopped, turning the wheel lock to lock is a bitch. Move at .1mph, it's easy.
Are people just this lazy now? Next you'll all be buying auto-tragic camrys.

Yes, it feels exactly the same when you're moving and sucks at low speed, why are you removing it again?
