Default coolant temp sensor placement

Hey guys, just got an oil pressure and water temp gauge off of ebay so i dont have to deal with the oem dummy gauges.

I run megasquirt using the stock coolant sensor and i dont really want to mess with that, so i am looking to order one of these:

eBay Motors: 30mm Water temp Gauge Radiator Hose Sender Adaptor (item 300252098721 end time Feb-17-09 00:34:32 PST)

First question: the miata rad hose is 30 mm right? 1.12"?

Second question: what is the correct placement of one of these. Should i put it in the lower rad hose? On my sr20det i had one placed on my upper so i obviously wouldn't get readings till the thermostat opened.

well, since your oem gauge is after the thermostat why not have this one be before so you know what temps are going into your motor?

Old thread, same subject:

So, I am broke and still have to get around to instaling my temp sensor for my autometer gauge.

Would there be any downfall for using a NPT Tee and Teeing off of the turbo coolant INPUT line (the one from the thermostat housing). It should be the same temp coolant, and that way if i rly want to i can see the difference between coolant coming out of the front and rear of the motor. I dont realy care about knowing the temp before my thermostat opens.
